Pros
Smart, hardworking junior staff who keep the place going
Cons
This is the most challenging environment I’ve worked in. The CEO, and his newish COO, are both as bad as each other - delusional, arrogant and unable to take feedback of any sort. The upshot is that it’s really a climate of fear and no one wanting to say anything that’s not the party line. Not the signs of a positive culture or working environment. This is in the context of the facade pretending that the culture is a good one. The whole narrative about Blakeney being a good place to work is entirely created by the SLT. You only have to look at the slew of good people that have left - most under some sort of cloud - to see that it’s far from a positive environment. This year alone, I think it’s eight or nine that have gone from across all levels - about 30% of the workforce. And I think some have left without jobs to go to, but just wanted to be out. And the big reason for this is that the moment you challenge anything, however big or small, you’re out of favour. Some people will just not be spoken to anymore by the CEO. Sometimes this will last for a while, other times not. But it’s all a big game of power and manipulation and control. And then people get to the point where they’ve had enough. These are experienced professionals, with years of experience and a real desire to do good work, being treated like children by someone behaving like a child. If you want to be treated like a grown up, and be happy and respected in your work please do not work at here. You’ll be a million times better off elsewhere.
