Pros

Nice co-workers Accommodating leadership Rewarding (yet exhausting) helping students

Cons

The pay is too low after taxes for even one person to live comfortably. A person should not be living pay check to pay check while working full-time (and yes, budgeting and living within their means) at a job that requires a four year degree at the least. Benefits are not good enough to make up for this. Being a non-profit, we also don't get the nice little perks of other in-person office jobs that make coming into the office a little better. The budget is very tight, and there is not a lot of room for growth. There also aren't a lot of guidelines, so it gets chaotic and very make-it-up-as-you-go. The changing curriculum also feels like something that actively creates barriers for many of our students and pushes back graduations. Wanting to challenge them is a nice thought, but these aren't traditional students, and trying to treat them like they are just makes it take longer for them to graduate, and most of them can't afford that. They picked the Excel Center because it is an accelerated program that will get most of them better positions in the workforce quickly, not because they're trying to get into Harvard. The impact is also worse at some locations than others, depending on the population.

Pros

You will truly feel what it is to make a difference in the world. You will cross paths with amazing people and feel the inspiration settle deep within you. All of this will fill you with love, gratitude, and a sense of self.

Cons

You will work for Satans. Anyone who is anybody important in this building has a Napoleon complex the size of France itself. Everything you do will be micromanaged and dissected for bait. You will be lied to plenty, and promised almost nothing. Everything you stand on morally will be challenged and then somehow used against you. Not enough support staff. Teachers do not get enough prep time nor scheduling breaks for their class loads. Success coaches are overworked and under appreciated. Staff is taught to fight each other, and then yelled at for fighting each other. Everyone is weirdly plotting against someone, instead of just doing a good job with their jobs. Weird priorities, nothing gets done, then the lower staff pays the price. No actual security on site for when issues arise (and they WILL arise). Student behavior issues will go unlooked and unaddressed, amounting into larger issues down the line. Some even bring drugs and weapons to school instead of books and pencils. Current HR is a nightmare and a lawsuit waiting to happen. Sensitive information leaked due to not even knowing correct employee contact information. Won't take accountability. Won't even know what you look like, but will verbally berate someone they think is you. Truly odd behavior...
