Pros

- THL provides an option for health insurance that is 100% paid by THL - 401K match - remote work - last Friday of every month is a vacation day - unlimited PTO - if you have the right manager, you will be set up for success.

Cons

- the health insurance is awful, including the plan you can pay for. costs are high. - PTO is unlimited but it is highly dependent on your manager and their willingness to approve it or not question it. be prepared to get questioned for taking time off while management takes it whenever they want. - how salary is determined is unclear, with BIPOC staff members experiencing the most harm and inequity. across the board salaries are low and you will get pushback from management on requests for increases (despite a $15 mil budget) - management doesn't take feedback well despite have saying they want a culture of feedback. I know of at least 2 former staff members who were terminated bc of it. - emotional abuse at the hands of managers is rampant and leadership often protects those managers. I know of multiple staff members who have started taking antidepressants and/or anti-anxiety medication as a result of their work at THL. - not a safe environment for BIPOC individuals. the organization is performative in their calls for rooting work in antiracism, but fails to address the harms BIPOC folks experience at the organization and often dismisses the lived experiences of BIPOC staff. leadership and management is overwhelmingly white. - turnover is very high. - culture that is obsessed with perfection and positivity. unwillingness to have difficult conversations. - board is disconnected from the day-to-day operations. - cliques run the org - if you aren't in the original "friend group" forget about advancement in the organization. - ACE recommendation is questionable since ACE is tight with OPP who funds THL.

Pros

I don't know if this was my supervisor, but the work culture was 10/10. I never felt over-pressured, there was room to grow, and it felt self-care was really prioritized. I don't want to invalidate anyone's experience, but personally for me THL was the best workplace I have ever been in. My supervisor's emphasis on taking care of myself and validating my hard work and always being there for me really actually helped me overcome my anxiety around work and perfectionist-based procrastination that I've struggled with for a long time. The work was also rewarding it felt like I was making a difference for animals.

Cons

None that I can think of.

Pros

Unlimited PTO and remote work is nice. In addition, the organization places a strong emphasis on DEI initiatives, dedicating significant time and resources to these efforts. While commendable, this focus sometimes appears to overshadow the core mission, leading to a perception that DEI is pursued more as a checkbox exercise than as an integrated aspect of the organization's values

Cons

It is often unclear who to turn to for support or guidance, especially when navigating complex or sensitive issues. While the organization encourages feedback, at times it feels like honest input is not always met with openness or follow-through, which creates hesitation around raising concerns.
