Pros

Variety of client and type of work coming in makes it so projects aren't repetitive or boring. Some talented and smart people in the company. Room for growth.

Cons

Designers are NOT allowed to list work they do here on their portfolios. Also, there is no senior leadership in design. No boundaries with client expectations. Projects are accepted at the cost of employees who will work overnight and on weekends. This leads to unfair compensation to those extra hours worked where some people receive extra PTO and others won't. Pay inequality. People with higher titles can be paid less than those with lower titles. Also multiple instances of gender pay gaps during my time here. Toxic environment. While most of the people there are great, there are a few who spread tons of negativity. Rumors spread about who management will fire next and tons of badmouthing people behind their backs. These people also happen to be favorites and are rewarded for behavior.

The Program Response
6y
Hello and thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts. We are sorely disappointed to hear you had such a negative experience at The Program. As a small but growing company, we aim to make sure each team member has the opportunities to learn and grow in a positive and supportive environment. We apologize if this was not felt. While we respect each team members personal opinions, there are a few comments here that we feel are important to address. This will avoid confusion between that which is one’s personal experience and that which is founded in documented materials. - Designers are absolutely allowed to show work in their portfolios. So long as that work is public in nature (e.g. the campaign is live), and proper attribution is given (e.g. client, agency, team members). - We have documented salary bands that each role falls within at time of hire and when considered for salary increases and promotion. These bands include a small range to account for years of experience, skill-set, etc. With regards to gender pay gaps, you will find our most sr. level and highest paid team members in the history of the company are women. These women were simply the best qualified for the role at the time of hire or promotion. We hire and promote based on talent, contribution, and most importantly, one’s passion for the work and the brands we serve.

Pros

My experience as a project manager here has been largely positive, though not without its challenges. The role offers substantial opportunities for professional growth and skill development in a dynamic environment. The team stands out as highly creative, talented, and collaborative. When alignment is strong, projects progress rapidly and the tangible results of collective effort are genuinely rewarding. Internal collaboration is frequently solution-focused, with colleagues who are invested. Client expectations often drive aggressive timelines and frequent priority shifts, requiring ongoing expectation management, schedule re-baselining, and proactive risk mitigation. While tools and processes provide a solid foundation, the pace and client demand for speed and close partnership can make planning and execution more fluid than in more predictable environments. Leadership support is generally A- but sometimes B+. Company-wide leadership is strong, and we recently had an allhands where the founders shared about the evolution of the company and how being an independent company has been beneficial. However at a project level, some leaders offer clear direction and timely availability, which greatly facilitates decision-making. Others adopt a more hands-off approach, granting significant autonomy to project managers. This works well for those comfortable with independent judgment, but it can create added pressure in high-stakes situations or when client demands are amplified. Personally, I value the autonomy, though it may be less supportive for individuals who prefer more handholding. The Program is a place where project managers have the chance to work with diverse clients on interesting and challenging work. You learn to navigate ambiguity, manage shifting priorities, and coordinate across multiple teams; these are valuable skills that aren’t easy to develop. In short, if you enjoy a fast-paced, collaborative environment and don’t mind filling in some gaps to keep projects on track, they offer meaningful experience and growth opportunities. Just be prepared for occasional unpredictability and a need to be proactive, adaptable, and resourceful on a daily basis.

Cons

Communication across the agency is generally effective, but escalations sometimes occur after issues have already begun affecting project health. This can lead to reactive firefighting and additional effort to get everything back in order. When communication flows well, however, the teamwork is exceptional.

Pros

The people are nice, but they are generally everywhere - new, inexperienced, and generally don't understand they are being taken advantage of. The Creative Director dresses like she had 2 seconds in a toddler's costume closet. Unprofessional AF. It's a full-on travelling circus, with no culture.

Cons

No 401K matching, laughable "professional job." Pays less than a junior designer job anywhere else, but the market being what it is, it was a place to go. Definitely regret it. No respectable designer would ever work in this design mill. When they find out you have any experience, they will try to exploit it, then fire you if you refuse to play the part. I was pressured into managing a team, then when it was clear I wouldn't do it for no additional pay. BIG SURPRISE. I got let go.
