Pros

I had the opportunity to work as an intern for the Writer's Workout. I loved a lot of aspects of my work with them, but I especially enjoyed the remote options available. The team was responsive and well-managed, and I felt supported by the staff.

Cons

I struggled sometimes with the workload, but that was more an issue of my personal life than the job. They did their best to be upfront with what was required, but some weeks would be more intense than others and the turnaround time on projects coudl sometimes get a little too tight.

Pros

Without the Writer's Workout, I doubt that I would be the same person that I am today. I have been working with them for the past two years and started off as an intern. I have grown with them and they're the first group that I have done work for remotely, which prepared me for a new unknown that came ahead when COVID hit the US. The staff is very friendly, and everyone there cares about and believes in what they are doing.

Cons

The only con that I can think of comes from a personal side, and that's you need to manage your time well. If you don't learn to do that, then you'll have a harder time.

Pros

You might trauma-bond with some really smart, cool people. If you like weeks of homework during the summer with no grade and mean teachers who know nothing, this is for you!!!

Cons

Everything else. Literally everything. Specifically it feels like a cult. A mean, grouchy person is running this garbage mill and as others have said wants free labor from people who don't complain. During the interview it will be a completely different story though. When the complaints start, so do the beatings!!! I would say this is ideal for someone with zero industry experience who avoids being berated and talked down to because they don't have any thoughts and opinions on anything (which is what you want in a judge) You also need to be good with other people constantly steamrolling you because that's apparently how nonprofits in creative spaces should be run. I'd hate for this to be someone's first experience though. The people I met were real and down to earth and had actual experience with editing and judging and were equally appalled.
