Pros
The only positive were the people I worked alongside. Colleagues were great and very supportive but most of it was in solidarity. Nothing like someone horrible at the top to band people together.
Cons
Underpaid, overworked and the owner, Melanie Michaud, is one of the most noxious and manipulative people I have ever had the misfortune to come across. I left as fast as I could.

I’m sorry to hear this. Through our experience it was clear your values and experience level was not aligned with Thread + Seed. The management team was honest and transparent with you and gave you plenty of time to look for a new role. We wish you the best of luck!

Pros
Thread + Seed has been one of the most rewarding places I've worked. The company really invests in helping people grow, and I've learned so much both professionally and personally. It's a fast-paced environment where there's always something new to learn, and you're encouraged to challenge yourself. The customer base is amazing, making it fun to build genuine relationships and help clients find pieces they love. For anyone in a client-facing role, it's a great place to strengthen your styling skills, understand KPIs, and become more confident in sales. I also can't say enough good things about the team and the owner—they genuinely care about creating a positive culture and helping people succeed.
Cons
Thread + Seed isn't the best fit for someone looking for a slower-paced environment or who doesn't enjoy being challenged. The company is best for someone who enjoys learning, growing, and adapting.
This company offers no benefits, no parking support, and not even water for employees. Breaks are minimal — expect to work nonstop except for an unpaid lunch break.
Work-life balance does not exist here. Management sends messages through Vox even outside business hours, sometimes as early as 6am or as late as 9pm.
The environment is stressful, unorganized, and lacks basic respect for employees’ time and well-being.

We’re sorry to hear that your experience at Thread & Seed didn’t fully meet your expectations. We truly appreciate the time and energy you brought to the team during your years with us.
As a small business, we do our best to create a supportive workplace with meaningful perks and benefits. Health benefits are available to all eligible team members who choose to opt in. We care deeply about our team’s well-being and make sure our policies align with state labor requirements. Our break policies are reviewed during onboarding, signed off by each employee and detailed in shift notes.
When it comes to communication, we truly value our team’s time — which is why Vox is meant to be used only while clocked in. There’s never an expectation for hourly employees to check or respond outside of their working hours.
We appreciate your feedback and the role you played in helping us grow. We wish you nothing but the best moving forward.
Warmly,
The Thread & Seed Leadership Team
