Pros

RRSP matching and share purchase programs. Paid travel. Expense reimbursement policy is very good. Many options for FIFO 14/14 work schedules. Paid vacation. Rewarding when you really get it right for a customer in need.

Cons

Corporate/head office is perceived as an obstacle to get around rather than a resource to rely on. Pay inequality, hiring people off the street with higher base salaries and less industry knowledge than experienced and appreciated employees. Market Adjustments built into salaries that never change, despite what the labor market is doing. If you excel at your current role, expect to be stuck in that position for a very long time. In my experience, they do not like to let their star players move about and potentially handicap a department. Heavy workloads. Archaic business system goes down for hours on end 6/7 nights per week. This makes nightshifts quite frustrating. In addition to this system, being as obsolete as it is, it leaves you with little transferrable skills if looking to move to another company that utilizes a more modern system. Because the business operating system is so old, it leads to countless web applications to perform daily business functions that other companies can perform all in one place. Expect to have tabs upon tabs open in your web browser just to perform your daily duties. Tend to run very lean on staffing, heavy on management. Employee's that do not pull their weight and/or are known to cause problems are not dealt with by supervisors/management effectively or at all. Remote site employees are given floater days, but are not allowed to use them under any circumstance. Year-end bonuses seem to reflect very little on what actually happens during a fiscal year. Yearly salary increases are mediocre at best. Seem to have very little reflection of individual performance and usually do not come close to covering half of the national inflation rate. Year-end employee review means absolutely nothing, good or bad. Expected to complete "X" amount of training per year, no time is given on the job to complete this, and no opportunities are given to complete training at home for pay. Applying for jobs within the company can be very frustrating. It is all about who you know, even when you are on the inside.
