Pros

The animals of course, this is why good people are drawn here and continue to work here. Those who work directly with them are mostly all wonderful, caring and dedicated people. Head veterinary staff are exceptional. Animal care workers and vet techs are compassionate and very hard-working. The volunteers are amazing. If you take the time to spend time with the animals and get to know the staff who work with them directly you hear some wonderful success stories, and can see first-hand the great work being done on their behalf. Some highly capable and dedicated people working in admin positions and with the public( although their skills are never fully utilised).

Cons

Corrupt upper management/HR/ CEO/COO Extreme nepotism and politics Unqualified/ incapable and lazy management who take credit for work they have not done, and spend most of their time trying to find ways to legally mistreat those who report to them Culture of fear/ people are afraid to speak up Chronic HR issues - HR is actually a joke, and everyone who works there knows this Bullying/ scare tactics Poor treatment of lowest earning staff Donors are being misled and having their money wasted by upper management

Pros

Seeing animals everyday, connecting animals to awesome pet parents, passionate and nice co-workers, offers professional development opportunities, nice location

Cons

I put my heart into every aspect of my job here because of my love for animals and utmost respect for my co-workers and vet techs and vets here. My responsibilities immediately changed (having to do intake/surrender calls and urgent medical calls everyday) without a raise or training, and upper management always diminished us. During the time we were highly understaffed, they let me go right before my last shift with no warning or explanation. After a few months, my boss texted me to ask if I would return.
