Pros

Smart people. They examine and live best practices.

Cons

Can almost feel robotic. The big irony is that an organizational development company struggles so much in creating a strong culture. There is a cult-like feel, and most employees seem ultimately unhappy in spite of great perks. It was terrible for women, at times outright sexist. There is a very high turnover.

It's disappointing to read this review and I'm sorry to hear that any person at Undercurrent felt that they were operating in a sexist environment. Undercurrent has worked hard to create generative difference at our company. Over the last year, we have implemented several policies in order to ensure that women and men have an equal voice and opportunity at Undercurrent from reaching gender parity in staff to disclosing our salary levels in attempt to ensure that both genders have the ability to negotiate their salaries. We practice holacracy at Undercurrent and half of our lead links our women. With this many strong, bright women at Undercurrent creating policies and inputting on how/what/where we do business, I am surprised that anyone would call this environment "outright sexist." I would love to speak with this person about their experience, so that I can learn why they felt as they did and share the learnings with the larger team. If they are open to dialogue, please use the love @ box.

Pros

The most amazing and most consistent thing about the company over the 5+ years I’ve worked here is that it’s a place where incredibly smart and curious people come together to see if the famous Margaret Mead quote is really true - “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” The company culture is fueled by an ambition to change the world for the better, and just enough naive optimism to believe that it’s possible. The result is that 1) nearly everyone you work with is a pleasure to be around, 2) you’ll feel like you’ve got a rocket booster on your career, and 3) you get access to incredible clients from day 1 (very senior, and very large-scale).

Cons

Because of the fast pace and the high-performance culture, Undercurrent can be a bit unforgiving. It’s a sink or swim kind of environment, which works great for people who thrive on that challenge, but can be a challenge for people who need more support.
