Pros
My temp agent said that I would not have had a problem if I’d been in a different department. This is a good company with a lot of growth potential, with just a few things holding them back.
Cons
In the department I was in, secondary operations 1st shift, under Cindy’s management, I always maintained a positive outlook and demeanor. Rachelle, my temporary employment advisor, was a very kind and professional individual, ex officer, who said that she would recommend me for employment moving forward. I saw many good people who were good workers lose their jobs, to the extent that it was a regular occurrence to show up to work and someone would be missing from the room. There is a very active turnover rate there, so when a new person would start I would do my best to be welcoming toward them within reason. I’d ask them how they were doing, what they liked about the company, and I’d share a little about me; my name, that I joined because of my background in 3D modeling and because of the importance of the products we create in the healthcare and defense industries. I made a point to make it brief, since such conversations were allowed. Unfortunately, there were two occasions, each with different newly-employed individuals, where we had been talking more briefly than our neighbors, when we were anonymously reported and told to stop talking. It was very embarrassing for both parties and, on both occasions, the new person decided to leave. I was told to come to Cindy’s office, told that my behavior was unacceptable, and that I “should have known better” and “shown them our culture here”. On another occasion, a supervisor set up my work station and made the mistake of mixing up two labels for different sizes of nuts. When Cindy came over she pointed this out, and I said that I had not been the one to set it up. The supervisor denied that it was him, and it was assumed to have been a mistake on my part. This is a regular occurrence. I saw many scrapped parts with no documentation resulting from people being afraid of losing their jobs over the months that I worked there. I completed my requirements as a temporary employee (about 700 hours) and was waiting to be hired on when Rachelle talked to me after my shift and told me that Cindy had decided to end my assignment. When I asked why, she told me that Cindy said it was because I “was the first person to come to mind”. Two businesses days later, all the rest of the temps were let go “due to slowed production”. I don’t know why I was the first to be let go. My performance passed at most stations and was still consistently improving. My manager stated early on that she is a straightforward person, but even the day I was let go there was no indication that anything was wrong.
