Pros
The pros of working at Vero are sadly very few. The residents I work with, My Director of Nurses and my former Administrator are truly the only reasons I have stayed at this facility for as long as I have.
Cons
The owners of Vero are from out of state and they periodically come to town to check in on the 3 buildings. From my observations these owners are not interested in anything but just making money. A safe, positive and structured work environment are also important yet I feel that they don't care about any of those things. My building has had its share of problems in recent years and there was a time when we did not have an Administrator in place. There was nobody to oversee the day to day operations of the facility and as a result we all suffered. Staff were coming and going as they pleased, there was no accountability for actions displayed, morale was down and the residents were not getting the care that they deserved. It was a tough place to work. Last year an Administrator was finally hired and positive and effective changes were immediately implemented. Structure was put in place, professionalism and accountability were stressed and a positive and healthy work environment began. My Director of Nurses has always been an effective leader and to add an Adminstrator like that as well was exactly what we needed. Effective changes were finally made and we not only started making money but we went through a deficiency free survey as well. I unfortunately cannot say the same for the other 2 buildings in Boston as their surveys were horrible. The Administrator stressed the importance of working as a team and made us feel like family not just paid employees. He would come in on the evening and night shifts, weekends and holidays just to check in with us and make sure that we had everything that we needed for success. We felt appreciated and supported. Was he tough? Yes. Did he expect us to do our jobs? Yes. Was he fair? Absolutely yes! Why else would a lot of the nurses and CNAs from the 2 other buildings want to work with us? At present the only leader left to count on is my Director of Nurses. The owners don't care about or support us and neither does the rest of the management team. . Anyone who considers working here should think long and hard about whether or not this type of environment is what you are looking for.
