Pros

- You get to tell people you worked in the same building as Terri Gross. - WHYY helps kids / students and reports on things that hit close to home. -Sometimes you get free, cold food, and you can always get coffee or tea. -If you're lucky they'll put you in a part of the building, where everyone will leave you alone. -Building next door is the unofficial cafeteria, and on Wednesday the salads are weightless, meaning you can make them as big as you want without being charged extra.

Cons

Oh man here we go: -Must constantly look busy, or CEO will come by wave then harass your manager who will in turn harass you. Classic toxic sludge flow. -CEO is hilariously absurd. He works for a non profit that struggles to buy new equipment and softwares for shows and yet he is the HIGHEST paid non profit CEO in America. Google him. Walks around the office like a lion, everyone fears him, says inappropriate things to coworkers, is literally crazy. -Managers are completely toxic, talking behind your back, gossip, grumpy, NEVER satisfied, and are constantly taking pressure from CEO and executives out on you. It's amazing to see from a far, but terrible to be in. You're never woking hard enough, you're never busy enough, never fast enough, and you can forget about asking for a raise. Vacation and PTO is always a hassle, working from home is no longer allowed. All the Dinosaurs just somber in. -Speaking of Dinosaurs, weak digital media presence, weak social media, weak work from home policy, literally stuck in the past. Antiquated video and audio technology, archaic clock in system requiring you to clock and code all hours. COMPLETELY ridiculous and unneeded. -Everyone who works here secretly wants to escape. You can feel it in almost every interaction. It's eerie. Staff is underpaid, management and execs are stressed and disrespectful, and before you know it, BOOM! you're just another T-rex in Jurassic Park.

Pros

Incredible staff Accessible location Feel good initiatives Constant community engagement The company is on track for success despite cutbacks Legacy Media

Cons

Legacy Media Impenetrable Silos Power trips Very little support for disability or health emergencies (multiple cases of people being pushed out or asked to reveal personal information to “prove” they deserve to use benefits) General depression throughout the company about public media, constant reminders about working harder The schedule is usually not flexible despite what they say in interviews. Adherence to the strict in office schedule bridges on surveillance regardless of assignment. Employees are regularly asked to explain why they are in the field with viewers instead of wasting away in the office. They have trouble keeping Black employees, especially in the Newsroom Black employees are rarely given the opportunity to advance without 10+ years of company loyalty Adherence to “donor preferences” limits creativity and willingness to explore in all departments
