Pros

You feel like you are helping the world change for the better, helping educate the masses about culture and politics. There are countless brilliant and hilarious people working there. It's a family atmosphere. Also the station is well regarded nationally.

Cons

There's never any money. Nonprofit. Always begging listeners for a buck. Plus upper management makes all the money while the people who create the programming get paid the absolute minimum. It's obvious when a companywide email goes out that there are some leftover scraps from a board meeting and the staff descends like buzzards.

Pros

Incredible staff Accessible location Feel good initiatives Constant community engagement The company is on track for success despite cutbacks Legacy Media

Cons

Legacy Media Impenetrable Silos Power trips Very little support for disability or health emergencies (multiple cases of people being pushed out or asked to reveal personal information to “prove” they deserve to use benefits) General depression throughout the company about public media, constant reminders about working harder The schedule is usually not flexible despite what they say in interviews. Adherence to the strict in office schedule bridges on surveillance regardless of assignment. Employees are regularly asked to explain why they are in the field with viewers instead of wasting away in the office. They have trouble keeping Black employees, especially in the Newsroom Black employees are rarely given the opportunity to advance without 10+ years of company loyalty Adherence to “donor preferences” limits creativity and willingness to explore in all departments
