Pros

You can progress from within as people leave or get made redundant and you can climb into the roles they vacate across the company. If you want what comes with that, give up your sanity and move near to Crawley.

Cons

Location is depressing and a pain. There is a lack of real concern for employee progression and myself and other employees feel trapped, rather than inspired. It's also all about the bottom line for these guys. One or two 'lifers' - who will stay here as they live locally or it is convenient. More interest in events than publishing or quality training. Also lots of the HR decisions dubious due to covering tracks and managing hiding why most of our colleagues have departed. Lots of redundancies to get a bit of extra cash in when necessary. You are a number, not a person. They even started charging for coffee once they realised it was popular with staff. They give with one hand, but they make us feel subservient. It doesn't take much to be a good employer. Unfortunately, these guys are good at presenting themselves as good employers, not being that.

We want to ensure that all of our employees have a positive experience whilst working with us and feel comfortable discussing issues with the HR department. I can see that you are a current employee so we would be happy to discuss your issues in more detail if you would like to. I’m keen to address a few of the issues that you’ve raised as we have made changes since your review was posted last year: - Training and development is very important to us and we continue to look at how we can improve in this area. If you have specific ideas or training requirements please raise these with us as we always look positively at requests from people wishing to develop their skills - Attendance at Company parties is entirely voluntary and the parties are well received by a majority of employees. We like to provide an opportunity for colleagues to relax in a fun an informal way and to show our appreciation for everyone’s hard work. We always obtain feedback after such events so please share your views with us or get in touch if you have ideas on how to improve future social events - The events area of our business is very important to us, however, we are also have lots of exciting things happening in digital and print content side - We recognise that the location may not suit everyone but we are working hard to make it as pleasant an environment as possible. Our staff café area is proving popular, we have improved parking facilities and are increasing our range of employee well-being initiatives. We are glad you enjoy the premium coffee which is subsidised by the company but does incur a minimal employee contribution. Please note that there is standard tea, coffee and chilled water available at all teapoints for us all to enjoy free of charge
