Pros

- Friendly, helpful, hardworking colleagues who made work bearable - Great office location - Free onsite parking - Monthly payday breakfast - Free fruit, tea & coffee provided in the office - Onsite gym

Cons

Quite simply put, everything negative about working for aql stems from the dire leadership displayed at the very top. Initial alarm bells rang when in the space of half a year the majority of the senior management team alongside a mass of non senior members of staff all left (fled) the company – most of which were not adequately replaced with their workload and responsibilities disseminated to other individuals/teams. This was justified and rationalised through the use of business jargon such as ‘streamlining’ and ‘going in a new direction’ when it was little more than penny pinching and a lack of planning & recruitment. The CEO promotes a culture where everyone should go above and beyond for the company as if they owe a debt of gratitude when in actual fact employees work until they’re ran in to the ground with little in the way of compensation/remuneration for their additional efforts. There is no opportunity for progression if you work in a commercial role, compounded by the fact that regular performance reviews are non-existent with some members of staff having gone without a pay review for over 3 years. When this is raised formally, requests often just go ignored/unanswered. Other examples of the type of poor “leadership” displayed included (but certainly weren’t limited to): - Instructing several employees’ annual leave to be cancelled with less than a weeks’ notice given. The week before Christmas. - Sales & Account Management teams having to wait over 6 months for a commission structure to be put in place. - Misuse of company resource – for example, sending the company electrician to work on things such as personal property projects. Attitude and treatment towards people is best summarised in the following example where members of staff were asked/told to vote for the CEO to win an award and it was stated stated.. “..If you don’t think I’m your leader, pls drop me your resignation and we’ll write you a nice reference..”

Thank you for spending the time to review aql and your experience at the company, and we’re sorry you feel that your time here was not what you had expected. The CEO has a very strong entrepreneurial drive and wants the best for aql and the people that work there. It is this passion that has made him well respected within the industry and has driven the company to success. Working at aql is not for everyone. It is a very fast paced environment and every individual within the team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology. We all work at aql to make a difference to society and this is what we are doing as a team and are proud of that. With regards to the unfortunate staff turnover, the management structure at the start of the year did not match the structure needed for our growth and significant and decisive changes were made. There has been no misuse of company resources. Again - we re-iterate to any potential employees. Please - do your homework - use Google. We value entrepreneurial spirit and those who understand and value it. aql is a company in private ownership, led by an award-winning innovator. Please work for us if you respect that. We believe in early responsibility, empowerment, aptitude and attitude. Again, thank you for your feedback.

Pros

Some nice perks (payday breakfast, healthcare plan) and some really lovely people

Cons

Low pay relative to similar roles elsewhere A complete lack of trust from management to staff A lot of micromanagement High staff turnover, not only from voluntar resignations but a significant number of people being asked to leave the company Very demoralising as there is little opportunity to move upwards in the company and staff often feel undervalued and overworked

We’re always open to feedback and appreciate your positive comments on the team and benefits, but sad to hear your time at aql was not what you were expecting. We will be reviewing our interview process to specifically address the mismatch between expectation of role and roles themselves. The aql team is the company’s most valued asset, we certainly understand that and always look to help support them in any way we can. In terms of opportunity to move upwards - there is both opportunity internally within aql, but also within its group of companies. Two of aql’s companies have female leadership and board members who have worked up from more junior positions within either the same company or a related group company. With regards to low pay, we closely monitor full pay and benefits to make sure working at aql is rewarding and also support employees in other ways to develop their careers.
