Pros

bay.org has a wonderful mission to support. There are many kind, fantastic people that work for all 6 brands of bay.org. Aquarium of the Bay delivers excellent animal care and is a prime venue for educating the public about local aquatic animals in the San Francisco Bay, and issues like plastic pollution. Likewise, the Aquarium’s sister organization, The Bay Institute, does very important research and litigation to protect water quality and quantity in the Bay--supporting the wellness of native aquatic species surrounded by urbanization pressures.as a wonderful mission to support. Cons

The leadership and management style is considerably poor: micro-management, ego-driven decision-making, no strategy planning, no quality control in branding and web platforms. Unfortunately PIER 39 does not attract locals (an important target market) to their outdated Aquarium, and budget restrictions prevent access for underserved local schools (another very important audience).

Pros

Always a pleasure to come to work at Pier39 and see what the latest activities are being promoted for attracting the tourists that roam the area. Technology infrastructure is relatively new and the policies for how to use it are clear. There is wide variety of users, all dedicated to helping the public understand and appreciate our overall mission to preserve the bay and the animals in it.

Cons

Being a non-profit organization can cause collateral confusion on the core objectives. We have a retail and events business unit with IT requirements so it's always a balancing of priorities.
