Pros

This organization has a wonderful education/conservation mission. It's fantastic to come into work and be with animals every day, and so many of my colleagues there were passionate, brilliant, and competent!

Cons

The top level management creates a toxic, fearful environment. Everyone in the organization feels constant fear about being fired by the fickle CEO. Project deadlines are set by the feelings of impatience of leadership, rather than their natural and true levels of priority. He often asks employees to do marginally illegal things, like fudging grant numbers, breaking OSHA or labor codes, etc. and doesn't listen when people push back. I would strongly not recommend working here.

Pros

Always a pleasure to come to work at Pier39 and see what the latest activities are being promoted for attracting the tourists that roam the area. Technology infrastructure is relatively new and the policies for how to use it are clear. There is wide variety of users, all dedicated to helping the public understand and appreciate our overall mission to preserve the bay and the animals in it.

Cons

Being a non-profit organization can cause collateral confusion on the core objectives. We have a retail and events business unit with IT requirements so it's always a balancing of priorities.
