    I worked at Extole full-time

    Pros

You'll work with smart, innovative emerging leaders in the SaaS / referral marketing arena.

    Cons

Insufficient technical resources at times result in the product lagging behind the hype and the promises made to prospects and clients.

    Advice to Management

Continue to "be leaders / make leaders".

I have been working at Extole full-time

    Pros

Senior leadership listens and responds to feedback
    Consistently strong customer base
    Solving surprisingly difficult problems
Extremely smart people at all levels
    Great benefits

    Cons

Long hours (but excellent vacation policy)

Long list of diverse clients is both a blessing and a curse as product prioritization is difficult and features don't always apply to entire customer base

    Advice to Management

Current focus on customer success is excellent. Future product planning should continue to take lessons directly from customers even as we build new themes and features.

I worked at Extole full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Seasoned, smart management. The team really understands SAAS, cares about design, has fun. Mantra really is work smarter not harder.

    Cons

CEO not sure how he wants the sales team structured.

    Advice to Management

Commit to a sales team structure.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Extole full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. They have great healthcare benefits, 100% coverage for the whole family
    2. They do have a intensive on-boarding process
    3. You get a lot variety in your work. So you can learn a lot in a short time.
    4. Their ability to magically add 5 star reviews after ones not so savory.

    Cons

    1. Product/Eng/TS are very aggressive, paranoid and unresponsive to other team's feedback.
They will try hard to ignore persistent bugs and a unstable release structure.
The feedback loop is taken very personally so people often fear backlash and loss of their jobs.

    2. So there's no HR, which seemed cool but it is like being in high school.
For a small company, everything was political, popularity-based and poor sr. management.
We had new bosses every 6 months and you needed to violently fight for work/life balance.

    3. Client work is mostly risk management within the platform.
The product was hard to support due to unstable, weekly changes and lack of UI design.
It is a troubling atmosphere when services team does the QA b/c they fired the QA team.

    Advice to Management

I don't regret working at Extole because I learned a lot but I wish I just stopped believing earlier. Mgmt had troubles, funding was hard but hard as I try to help, the wrong choices were constantly made. I am happier now that I left, but it's a bummer b/c I believe in referral marketing. I just don't believe in Extole's execution of it anymore.

    Cons

The CEO is a terrible person and is leading this company into bankruptcy.

    Pros

Surrounded by incredibly, smart competitive people. Everyone is given the opportunity to make an impact. Ability to develop new skills outside of your role. Exposure to multiple departments. Chance to level up and learn from company-building veterans.

    Cons

Career growth, and morale are not made a high priority, given it's a start-up where you must live and die in the moment. Very talented, competitive, and interesting people have come through the Extole ranks, but ultimately have been forced to look externally in search of their next great opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Laying off hardworking, popular people sometimes has to be done, but recognize that it can have a negative impact on everyone who sticks around. Acting like nothing happened can make current employees feel uncomfortable, breeds fear and gossip, and makes people want to look elsewhere.

I worked at Extole full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great place to learn
    - Many opportunities work closely with the very experienced and engaged executive team
    - Employees are competitively compensated
    - It's a value-driven organization
    - Company uses data to back up assumptions made by execs and individual contributors
    - Hard work is noticed, celebrated, and rewarded

    Cons

Typical growing pains of a dynamic startup...
    - Growth comes in peaks and troughs, but the company continues to innovate its way around challenges
    - Competitive product but it takes some time to get up to speed on how to best convey the value proposition

    Advice to Management

Stay focused and keep growing your best and brightest!

    Pros

Leadership team knows what they are doing and have ton of experience
    Fast growing business
    Strong sales organization

    Cons

    Weak product
    Tech stack from 2006
    Dead culture

    Advice to Management

You know who the poor performers are. Fire them. Pretty please. Keeping dead weight around "because they're cheap" undermines the entire culture and drags down the motivation of high performers. Instead, you act like tough guys when it *doesn't count* but avoid the hard decisions when it matters, like firing people who you and everyone else knows sucks.

    Pros

    Full control over day-to-day responsibilities
    Contributions to company are recognized
Fun, tight-knit group of people to work with
Technology stack that just works and scales with clients' traffic

    Cons

General hectic nature of a startup requires self-management as there's always lots more that needs to be done than can actually get done

    Advice to Management

    Keep the culture going

I have been working at Extole (More than a year)

    Pros

An awesome group of sharp, dedicated people working hard to shape the future of the company. Management has worked together before and seen success at previous companies. There's plenty of opportunities to get involved in different areas of the company to further personal career development. Great benefits and startup perks too (unlimited PTO, snacks, company outings to Napa/Hog Island)

    Cons

Standard startup work life balance - recognize it going in and you'll be fine

    Advice to Management

Keep the lines of communication open
