I worked at Ferro full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working and learning from the very experienced (30+year veterans) of the industry gave me a lot of insite about the business.

    Cons

Unstable management, constant turnover, no bonus programs, mandatory furloughs, pay freezes, not promoting their hard working young go getters (would rather hire from the outside)

    Advice to Management

Make the company and the job more desirable and the turnover will improve (especially with your upper level managers).

I worked at Ferro full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working at Ferro was like working with family. From the front offices, to the security, IT, upper management, everyone seemed to get along greatly and enjoyed each others company in and outside of work. There were team building events, company picnics, holiday parties.
I was able to advance, slowly but surely. The pay and benefits were reasonable. Great work-life balance with flexible schedules for some departments.

    Cons

The company could not keep the division I was in and sold it off to another major corporation leaving many people unemployed. But, on the other hand, they gave a nice compensation package to the people who had to leave.

I worked at Ferro full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ferro has gone through a lot of changes since 2009 but continues to survive through sheer will power. If you are energetic and want to help the company rebuild, this is a good place to make a mark.

    Cons

As in most company's, superior performance is recognized and rewarded, while average performance means you risk not getting an annual raise. Lots of promises that never come to fruition.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication regarding the status of the company to the workers.

I worked at Ferro (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive wages and benefits package.

    Cons

Hostile work environment. Labor union was hostile toward salaried employees. Management too worried about answering to the bank than look out for the best interests of the employees.

    Advice to Management

Focus on keeping your good salaried employees and end the constant in house fighting.

I have been working at Ferro full-time

    Pros

People are very friendly, small company, lot of interesting different product types. Management is very positive and encouraging.

    Cons

Very little room for upward movement, very limited financial motivation.

    Advice to Management

You pay for what you get, you will only maintain a stellar workforce if you pay them like a stellar work force. If your bottom line is innovation and performance and not the bottom dollar, you may need to reevaluate the investment made in new products and sales.

I worked at Ferro full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Laid back coworkers and are easy to get along with. Getting to travel to visit other Ferro sites. Very interesting products.

    Cons

Management tends to devalue employees. The way to profitability is to cut staff rather than improve products and processes. The R&D budget was cut completely in 2013. Medial salaries and very poor and expensive benefits.
