I worked at Fish Window Cleaning part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are going to be successful you need a few things to align just right. First, you need a Owner and management who bid, schedule, and provide equipment well. If you can get enough well paying jobs given to you, and you have good training, then making $30+ an hour shouldn't be a problem after 2-3 years, I averaged a little more than that (including drive time). You will usually work much less than 8 hours a day which is a pro/con (Average workers make $100-$180 by the end of the day). Making that kind of pay, without a 4 year college debt isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, so you and your team have to be dedicated. The owner I worked for also had some hefty benefits (compared to the rest of the industry) including health care, dental, paid vacation, and paid holidays. The majority of Fish franchises don't touch high rise, which is a pro since those cleaners make little more or even less than the guys on the ground.

    Cons

It's a fast pace and tedious industry, most do not make the potential earnings. Seasonal up and downs in the amount of work (Depending on the owner and the location). It's downright dirty, can be physically demanding, and can also be dangerous in certain conditions. Favoritism is easily played out.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your guys are fed well, and work safe. Promote those who are deserving.

    Pros

The hours aren't bad. M-F typically.

    Cons

Here we go. The first paycheck I received was my biggest, that is because my first week of training I was paid hourly. After training, you are paid by commission. My rate starting out was 30% of each completed job. Sounds ok at first... except we work in two man teams normally so now you split the days total between two people. Also, jobs are underbid which can really hurt your production for the day.

Now, not all jobs are underbid. Our franchise offers power washing as well, and these jobs are typically bid out pretty well. My partner and I were hired around the same time and our boss told us he'll get us trained on the power washers. It's been four months and we haven't had the opportunity to train on the on them. Instead of us getting cross- trained on the equipment, he'll give the other more experienced crew all the cushy jobs.

You'll be working in the elements. In the heat and cold. You'll also be working on ladders, in garden beds, on uneven ground. Lots of wasps, bees, spiders. On hot roofs.

It's exactly how it sounds, you clean windows for crap pay.... pretty terrible.

    Advice to Management

Don't lowball a bid just to get the job. It doesn't benefit anyone. Also stick to your promises or get used to high turnover

    Pros

Small family owned business. I've grown with the company. Nice people own this franchise. Great company(franchise) to own.

    Cons

Way too much testosterone in decision making by most men in the office. I am only woman here.

    Advice to Management

To become proactive in creating a fair work environment for women in the office. I must be the peace maker since I am the woman?
