Pros

Helping children/forming lasting bonds with children that otherwise have no one.

Cons

Management. Point blank. They receive little to no training on how to properly manage a group home. Employees are treated terribly. Higher ups use children that have gone through traumatic experiences like show ponies. Flaunting them in front of donors like they have done the world a favor in “saving” this child. They use children in DCF for free labor/money. They are only interested in making a dollar. Children abuse other children and management does nothing to stop it. Please save your self and your marriage trouble. Stay away from FSYR!

Pros

Loving all of the ranch children

Cons

Horribly disorganized. Too much attention and effort put into making things look good for the donors. Lack of work/life balance. Communication from management nonexistent. Backstabbing and a sense of negative competition between cottage houses and ranch locations. Foster children were treated like criminals. Way too much was asked of us for what we were paid and gave up emotionally. This job is TOUGH on a marriage.

Pros

Enjoyed working with the kids in care.

Cons

Lack of leadership!! No clear treatment goals other then food and a bed. Kids would get booted out of the cottage in the morning and have to sleep in their car due to the cottage parents want to go shopping together and no one else scheduled to work. This youth went to school, was honor roll and worked a job. No continuity in care between Cottage parents, relief parents or Shift workers. Cottage parents come back on duty and house is a mess and kids are upset they have to fo their chores, clean their room and do their homework. Shift workers come in and play games on their phone and collect a paycheck. Meanwhile cottage parents work 16 hours a day 14 days straight. It's obvious why Cottage parents leave. Admin does nothing about the situation because they don't want anyone to quit or they will have to do the job. The kids move cottage to cottage and are uprooted time after time multiple times a year. Staff and rules change week to week. They deserve more stability. I would love to give a glowing review, but can't in good conscience. I've seen it work much better at other group homes.
