I have been working at GPO full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The organization does a great job at Professional resources such as training, research tools and reference material. It is a Very friendly, respectful, and supportive environment. Flexible work schedule is afforded to the staff to enhance work-life balance.

    Cons

Poor support staff and very little accountability of poor performance of lower rank staff. It has been a challenge to find staff support that is knowledgeable and willing to work. It often appears the support staff are disgruntled, having a sense of entitlement while at the same time doing as little as possible.

    Advice to Management

Document unsatisfactory performance and take consistent action when warranted.

    Cons

This place is a joke! Upon getting a GS offer letter, they start my clearance. Mind you, I already had a clearance was working at another agency requiring a TS/SCI... These clowns after stringing me along for 10 months retract the offer saying that my Secret clearance was taking to long. If they treat their people like this before they walk in the door, what in the world are they doing after you get hired? Read the reviews for this place FIRST! Everyone CAN NOT be lying! TAKE HEED!

    Advice to Management

Get your HR together and treat people right! and there are people that have NO IDEA what they are doing KEVIN SMITH needs to be fired!

I have been working at GPO full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Job security: All federal agencies have are setup so that after three years, an employee mist really screw up in order to loose their job. It is great that people are promoted from within, but perhaps the overall career experience for the employee could be enhanced if manager candidates are required to do X number of hours of training of "how to manage people, without being an arse" before actually managing

    Cons

Management: It appears there is not a lot of management training classes, It is great that people are promoted from within, but perhaps the overall career experience for the employee could be enhanced if manager candidates are required to do X number of hours of training of "how to manage people, without being an arse" before actually managing

    Pros

GPO has a very important role both within government and to the American public; create high quality products; good work/life balance.

    Cons

Not forward thinking; too many GS-15 employees; needs to recruite younger talent that can grown within the organization; senior management oblivious and only focused on their own agenda.

    Advice to Management

Hire a more diverse workforce; put rescources into business units that are bringing in money; better employee recognition; create a more horizontal management chain; grow younger employee so they want to stay.
