I have been working at Hall Automotive part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy job and nothing strenuous. New people everyday and it's always fun looking at cars all day. Good hours as well.

    Cons

Some of the sales people are rude as well as customers but you just have to take it with a grain of salt.

    Advice to Management

Scheduling could use work so employees don't work for 12 hours at a time and pay could be better as well as training.

I worked at Hall Automotive full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hours, the amount of days you worked, some of the customers were great.

    Cons

Some of the employees there were treated special above all others, which showed when it came to things they've done.

    Advice to Management

If you're going to hire someone to take over a management position, make sure they aren't power hungry or racist.

    Cons

Very Long Hours/Long days/NO social life
    Work 6-7 days a week

Must dedicate entire life to this job to be successful

    Advice to Management

Be more honest on initial interview. Don't over promise how much you will make and how fast you might be able to advance.

I worked at Hall Automotive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good core group of desk managers and service employees good training and skill developement for beginners in the industry

    Cons

The general manager and the few General sales managers over the last 3 years could work just as well at kmart .

    Advice to Management

Once founded complaints from customers and employees circle around a particular person that person should be changed and not the people around them. Your training pay brings in unqualified hires and isn't enough to live on.

    Pros

The job is a guaranteed hire and guaranteed 40 hour work week. There is almost always overtime possible.

    Cons

Since the employee retention rate is so low, and turnaround is so high, almost anyone is hired. This means that almost no one knows how to do the job properly, training is short and unhelpful, and time is not taken to ensure things follow process. The Management team is spotty at best, and there is little to no communication unless it is to reprimand Agents for some small slight that is blown up by Management team. One of the Managers is a bully, and will make several people cry before you decide that this probably isn't a positive work environment and decide to leave. The only ones who stay are the ones who can tolerate toxicity or need the job to survive. The compensation and benefits package are both weak, especially considering the area is full of call centers for larger companies who provide a much more robust salary and benefits package.

    Advice to Management

Send your managers to training and focus on operations. Reduce your employee turnaround by creating a positive work environment and fostering a friendly office culture. Create the infrastructure for training that allows you to stop micromanaging and delegate.

    Pros

    Longevity, Friendly, Honest, Fun, Fearless

    Cons

Hours - nature of the business

  7. "ASE master auto technician"

    Pros

The technicians who work there are generally nice people. Raises were clearly defined as a technician (certifications + years). When we were busy you could make a lot of money.

    Cons

Flat rate pay is not conducive to customer satisfaction. In order to make a decent paycheck you need to work on a lot of cars, fast. 40+ hour work week is the normal (avg 46hr) since you are paid by the job there is no overtime for the extra hours you are there. Generally you come home wore out and dirty to the point it takes your weekends to recover.

    Advice to Management

To reduce comebacks and increase customer satisfaction pay the technicians hourly or salary.

I worked at Hall Automotive full-time

    Pros

Before the last manager, this was a decent company to work for. Okay pay, good benefits, etc. Good location, high visibility, good product that customers like.

    Cons

Then a GM that supposedly sexually harassed females at other locations moved in. He is verbally abusive, prone to explode in fits of rage and says highly sexual/inappropriate things to female employees. He manages to fool most customers but all of the good people are leaving as soon as they can. All of the signs of bad management are there. Many employees believe the GM to have some sort of serious mood disorder and its old-school car selling unethical there whenever he can get away with it.

    Advice to Management

Take a really close look at what is going on there. People are threatened on a daily basis and its really a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen.

I worked at Hall Automotive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great training, management was easy to work with, great benefits.

    Cons

Schedule was hectic, non-commission pay plan, a bit of store vs. store squabbling.

    Advice to Management

    Promote from within more often.

  10. "Good opportunity for some people looking to get sales experience."

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Good brands, and promotion from within. They have a good reputation for the most part and focus on customer satisfaction.

    Cons

Sales floor is flooded with too many sales people, favoritism shown to certain sales people, training that is provided to new sales people is forgotten by management sometimes once you go from training to the real environment because some of the managers are still "old school" car people.

    Advice to Management

Have sales managers get a refresher from the sales trainer so everyone is working the same way towards the same goal. Get rid of moral busters who don't want to be there and trim back the sales force so people who want to be there have a better chance to make a fair living.
