The Best Career I Have Ever Had

Nov 21, 2020 - Fleet Administrator in New York, NY
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

I’ve been employed here two years. I have met some of the best people I’ve ever worked with, the teams who provide the services across all parts of our agency. The work is rough at times, but we work towards the same goal, “Repair the world child by child”. It’s not just our motto, it’s our mission, our drive. I have never had a team that cares about each member, I’ve never had so much spiritual fulfillment from a career. If you want to make a difference in a child’s life no matter how small, this is the place.

      Cons

Occasional issues between departments. Some people are just here for the check. As far as businesses go though these are fairly normal. So no major Cons to this job.

      Toxic environment

      May 29, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

      Pros

You can find great coworkers you bond with. Management can be flexible at times with working remotely or taking time off.

      Cons

Management is poor and does not do a good job of supporting their staff. They overload staff with caseloads and work so that actual therapeutic work cannot be done. Staff is not trained well and many staff do not have a trauma lens so children are often yelled at and not approached therapeutically. Some nursing and school staff are completely unsupportive and unprofessional. The programs do not truly serve their intended purpose.

      Supportive team

May 10, 2021 - Preventive CPP Therapist in Bronx, NY
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

There is a really supportive and collaborative team feeling in the Bronx PPRS department. I felt consistently supported by my supervisor and my colleagues. JCCA is a supportive agency with lots of room for growth!

      Cons

I wanted a clinical job and this job had a lot of case management components, plus many of the families weren't ready to truly engage in the clinical model. There is a lot of turnover in the department. It is frustrating to work within the child welfare system which is an oppressive and problematic system, but that is not unique to JCCA.

Overall a great company, but there should be less tiers of management.

      Toxic culture in COVID

May 28, 2021 - Assistant Director in New York, NY
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

good mission, lots of great coworkers

      Cons

everyone is overworked, upper management is toxic. CEO creates a culture of fear. Upper management is almost all outside hires--which means that their loyalty is to CEO instead of the teams they are supposed to be leading. There are no more leaders at JCCA.

      Amazing coworkers, challenging work

Mar 17, 2021 - Social Work Supervisor in Brooklyn, NY
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Amazing, caring, thoughtful colleagues. Professional development encouraged. Clinical learning and meaningful work, while supporting & advocating for families.

      Cons

Upper management is trying but remains disconnected from the front-line work and adheres to the bottom line (ACS) but probably no more than any otehr preventive agencies. Challenging work and has been extra hard during pandemic times. At the end of the day, child welfare is still an oppressive system.
