    Pros

Everyone is very friendly and understanding helpful and knowledgeable and actually explain what needs to be done properly. It's a great company to work for with great benefits.

I worked at Lightning Source (Less than a year)

    Pros

The management were very friendly, engaged and encouraging (including upper management). The work environment allowed for self expression in both your work space and with your co-workers. There were regular activities for employees as a group; holiday meals, seasonal events, ping pong tournaments, games in the break rooms, birthday and work anniversary celebrations, etc.

    Cons

The position I was in at the time had a complete overhaul and was relocated under another company area and moved to a different building. The new process/job description did not promote a sense of ownership for the job and the department management change was not as positive as hoped.

    Advice to Management

I left the department shortly after the changes so it would be difficult to give advice as I do not know how things may have changed since. I do have very positive feelings about the company prior to the changes. Try not to loose sight of the value of your employee's job satisfaction.

    Pros

the health benefits are very good

    Cons

worked there for 7 years had a manger threaten my life once and nothing was done to him by upper management, they use intimidation and scare tactics to get the employees to do what they want and at every chance they take your vacation time away from you. None of the mangers or supervisors has ever printed before or been in manufacturing so they know nothing about the printing process. HR has little power to do anything about the problems there, mangers harassing employees until they get so mad they say something that gets them fired, changing the rules every month or so to give management the advantage not the employees, mangers pick at every little thing that happens on the production floor they worry too much about the little things but not about the big production issues that plague this company, like jobs never on time, or poor quality, and their ability to produce a quality product, quality is out the window the employees do not care anymore so they just go through the motions, there are production leads that take the step to rat on every employee for stupid little things and upper management thinks this is the proper way to treat people. They never listen to the people that operate the machines on the best way to increase production they just make up their own rules and procedures and make the operator do what they say, there is no compromise, its their way or the highway, and their way is 90% wrong, too bad the Ingrams don't know about the way the management team treats its own people.

I have been working at Lightning Source full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

At this point the only pro is that it gives me insurance for my children.

    Cons

The management is very poor. If they don't like you, you better watch your back. A lot of unfairness. Constant forced overtime which makes family life nearly impossible. The people who work the hardest are definitely not appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Listen to those who get the job done! take a management course and use those skills learned. 99% of you are very unprofessional! Last but not least, do something! Standing around talking and with your cell phones is very unmotivating when that's all you're seen doing!

I worked at Lightning Source full-time

    Pros

Coworkers are friendly and helpful, and create a good work atmosphere. Generally relaxed dress code. Good benefits package.

    Cons

Lower management and supervisors ignore employee concerns. Lower management may also take employee ideas and implement them without giving credit to the employee. They tend to fire experienced and veteran workers around the Nov-Dec holidays for tax purposes. Production floor contains mainly 6-month long temporary workers, which causes a lot of communication issues and inconsistencies. They reduce work staff and do not replace them, causing an overload of work for employees. Glass ceiling, most workers are not given a chance to advance to a higher position.

    Advice to Management

Quit eliminating experienced workers on the production floor and in the offices. This creates a large number of mistakes in the final product, as well a lack of communication between departments.

I worked at Lightning Source full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, solid company, good upper management.

    Cons

Lost personality when it was absorbed by the parent company. Political under-currents within the department.

    Advice to Management

Don't give a supervisor power to squeeze their workers out if they have personal issues with them. Have them produce a more valid paper trail, then review it's legitimacy.

I worked at Lightning Source full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very relaxed atmosphere, good access to supervisors and upper management.

    Cons

Terrible politics involved in advancement. Claims to promote from within, but all management positions are filled externally. Management constantly boasted about savings and profits, then gave out a 2% wage increase across the board, and eliminated annual bonuses. I experienced five 'permanent' schedule changes in a seven month period.

    Advice to Management

Businesses that define new paradigms should not be under the leadership of a company that is replaced by that paradigm.

    Pros

The work is easy, benefits good, people nice

    Cons

Management can be better, work is very easy and doesn't require much thinking on a persons part......if you like to be challenged and are looking for advancement then this is NOT the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Be fair to the associates, and actually do the job you are being paid for, people will work for supervisors that actually work and not stand around all day talking and bs'ing with each other.
