I have been working at Merchant Services Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Merchant Services Direct, now Sphyra LLC, provides inexpensive merchant processing. The product is easy to sell if you can catch merchants at the right time. If you are good at what you do, you can make pretty decent money.

    Cons

The biggest con is the lack of transparency. As a new employee you receive a lot of training, however the rates you are trained to quote don't always correlate with what the merchants end up paying. This is my biggest qualm with this company

    Advice to Management

More transparency, more incentives for sales staff, better lead management.

I worked at Merchant Services Direct full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not much of anything. If you want an unprofessional, noisy, immature environment to work in, than you'll find that here. You get a phone and PC to work at, but be prepared to supply your own supplies, and work off of lame lead lists.

    Cons

No one knows anything about the other services and platforms other than the simple card swiper. The training is ridiculous, takes place after a long 8 hour day 3 days a week and primarily covers how to hustle your potential customer, customer/employee support is extremely limited, slow and not very knowledgible. Customers get ripped off because the services they are told they will receive/qualify for (ie. 24 hour money deposit for the merchant) is usually NOT the reality which isn't found out until after the contract is signed. Your trained to lie about their not being a contract to get the merchant to sign, I can go on and on . They also cannot beat competitors that are already heavily in the marketplace and servicing your potential clients or are looking for a new provider.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue and stop cheating your customers and stop training your employees to lie, and not tell the whole truth. Educate your employees on all of the more sophisticated services. Provide real training to your employees so they can represent the services provided in a truthful and efficient manner.

I worked at Merchant Services Direct full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Popular music playing continuously; Many young, hot chicks in clubwear

    Cons

Work for nothing (aka "Commission Only"); Uses loophole/exception in minimum wage law that allows "outside sales people" to work for nothing; requires driving many miles in your own car at your own expense; requires "cold calling" in a Boiler Room atmosphere; has many characteristics of a Pyramid Scheme with the opportunity to make money by buying a franchise/opening your own office and recruiting people to work for nothing with unrealistic expectations and misrepresentation of potential earnings

    Advice to Management

Good products and services "sell themselves" while unwanted products and services can only be sold with high pressure, deceptive, boiler room tactics. Stop trying to ram the merchant services down people's throats, and try to sell goods and services that people actually want.

I worked at Merchant Services Direct full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Interesting co-workers & culture
    They hire cute girls
They play pop music all day
    Not physically demanding
Sometimes the phone conversations are fun & you get to talk to nice people
There may be potential to actually help small business owners

    Cons

    They only pay on commission
You do not have a real opportunity to make any money for at least two weeks
They expect you to be there 60 hours a week
You have to travel quite a bit at your own expense
Questions regarding the ethics of the business are not answered
You are required to lie & mislead people
Many people you call hate you
Hard work & near constant rejection for no pay

    Advice to Management

Provide compensation at least during training
Be transparent about what the job is, do not mislead employees

I worked at Merchant Services Direct full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working out of several offices for the company, I was trained by people who made it through the program - being mentored by them is better than any training you buy.

They give you the freedom and flexibility to develop new accounts your own way - they let you negotiate a deal instead have having to get approval from a sales manager for every aspect of the deal.

    Cons

Commission only - 15% Residuals starting out - The actual owners of the company (c-level) tend to play favorites with corporate resources.

    Advice to Management

    More aggressive commission structure.

    Pros

Merchant Services Direct is like home. Everyone is hardworking and friendly. MSD is a great place to work, not only because of what they do, but because of their reputation for treatment of their employees. Owners Shane and Kyle recognize hard work and offer opportunities for advancement for those wanting to grow themselves.

    Cons

The first few months can be financially taxing, but the company is growing nationwide which also leaves room for raises and advancement.

    Advice to Management

Keeping doing what you are doing. The projected growth of the company leaves a lot of room for advancement and the ability to be a part of something great!

    Pros

Management is very professional, outgoing, understanding, and ambitious. They develop people from the entry level up and provide an exciting opportunity for growth and advancement into a career.

    Cons

Starting at the entry level may be financially challenging for some people. The good part about this is we have reviews every 3 months. If you prove your work ethic and meet your department goals, you are given consistent raises to compensate for your hard work.

    Advice to Management

Keep expanding your business nation-wide and providing employees with the exciting opportunity to own a business.
