I worked at Miami Rescue Mission full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can see making a difference on a day to day basis.
Most of the staff is friendly and genuinely cares about their mission.

    Cons

    Upper Management.
    Upper Management.
Upper Management & Culture Procured by Upper Management.

    * My advice is to avoid at all cost as the turnover rate is EXTREMELY high. Staff is not necessarily fired as much as you would think, they are just tortured to quit, which most do within six months of realizing there are other, better, more normal working environments in this world.

Oh and don't ever expect a pay-raise or bump up in title. IT WON'T HAPPEN.

    Advice to Management

Trust the employees that you hire. Do not speak down to those who are qualified and doing a good job. Management has created a culture of co-dependency and scared employees by never really firing people, just berating them at every turn. Perhaps this will all change when the higher-ups leave? Or perhaps it is ingrained in the very fabric of the organization?

I have been working at Miami Rescue Mission full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Provide latitude to do what needs to be done to resolve a client issue. All workers are focused on the mission to help others and not involved with internal political back biting

    Cons

Limited financial resources. To a certain extent believe what they do and have been doing for the last 10 years is the optimal way and may not be flexible to support new ideas

    Pros

It's an organization that cares deeply for it's clients and goes the extra mile to make sure everyone gets a second chance to succeed in life.

    Cons

One has to have a calling for working with the homeless and those in society that are the most needy in the community, but it is very satisfying work.

    Advice to Management

Continue to expand opportunities in the areas of housing.

Great cause - changing lives everyday.

    Cons

Lots of overtime but no pay past 40 hours. Very little respect from upper management and no opportunity for career advancement.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with the same compassion and respect given to clients.
