    Positive Outlook

I worked at New Chapter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people that at NC are really wonderful. The company offers great benefits, yoga, gardening, healthy snacks and a trip to Costa Rica. The products are ones you can believe in.

    Cons

The managers and directors are awful at managing people. They demotivate and use scare tactics to get what they want. Several managers were reported to HR for multiple abuses and nothing was ever done. Sad too because the people that complained were wonderful and dedicated employees. Once you cross someone in their inner circle you should pack your bags. It was almost impossible to get promoted unless you were a friend of management.

    Advice to Management

    Clean house.

    Pros

Excellent connection to mission and purpose. Great benefits. Best products in the industry. Dedicated, passionate co-workers. Excellent compensation.

    Cons

Very challenging environment post P&G acquisition. Mostly external, i.e. customer negative feedback.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees well. Stay true to the mission

I worked at New Chapter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to commiserate with others.

    Cons

A company that appears to be on a higher moral ground, that is actually on shaky ground. Avoid this one like the plague.
Picture, if you will, all those dinosaurs who wandered into the La Brea Tar Pits unsuspectingly, seeking nourishment…then couldn’t get out of a toxic environment to save themselves. That’s the history you’d be repeating if you took a job here.
The brand purports to want to improve lives, yet the lives of the people who work there are steeped in poverty and managed by fear in a small economically depressed town in Southern Vermont. It’s a caste society within the walls, trying to pretend that it’s not. There are benefits that are mostly placating, like “free snacks” and a $100 wellness benefit. Bigger, more critical benefits are weak and costly. (One year we were told that our health care costs were increasing because “people keep having babies”. A bit hard to swallow when you watch the company leaders hop into a Tesla or a Lexus to head home to their families.)
The spirit of the company comes from its leaders, and the current CEO & figureheads are arrogant and mean-spirited underneath a superficially pleasant layer. That same spirit is rampant in the company.
I thank my lucky stars every day now that I’ve shaken loose of a highly dysfunctional, top-heavy environment! Seek the truth—and a great company—elsewhere.
Stay out of this tar pit and avoid this sinking dinosaur!

    Advice to Management

Current CEO & figureheads need to be "refreshed" if there's to be any hope of changing the work environment.

I worked at New Chapter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

free medication I guess. there isn't a whole lot to say that is positive anymore

    Cons

Before new chapter was purchased, it was an excellent place to work. Full of fun and happy employees that fully believed in the mission of the company. Since then they have been plagued with poor management, there commitment to the employee are none existent, and their "moral" principles are just for show. There is constant "restructuring". I would not recommend anyone work for this company

    Advice to Management

I would say go back to your basic principles but it is far to late for that.

I worked at New Chapter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Founders created a great company culture of respect for people and planet. They still make excellent vitamins and nutritional supplements.

    Cons

Company culture has changed for the worse since P&G took over which has caused poor employee morale and left a management team in place that is powerless and inept.

    Advice to Management

Clean house with current management and start fresh with a new team that has a fresh perspective and positive attitudes.

    "Bureaucratic Nonsense!"

I worked at New Chapter full-time

    Pros

Organic snacks, nice garden, the occasional chipmunk and cool birds scurring around outside.

    Cons

Backbiting in the warehouse, paticularly production. Workers seem to be walking around on eggshells, too afraid to speak up when a disservice is being done to them.

    Advice to Management

Hire a supervisor who isn't afraid to get into the mix and see the real personality of the employees. Don't turn a blind eye!

    Pros

Company culture supports personal health with onsite chi gong and meditation classes, organic snacks, a walking trail and a vegetable garden, as well as an employee allowance for purchasing supplements.

    Cons

Cubicle environment. Increasingly corporate atmosphere as a result of the acquisition by Proctor and Gamble, including bureaucratic hangups and shifting politics.

    Advice to Management

The cubicle environment is not for everyone and does not always encourage productivity. Greater flexibility around working remotely would help.
