I have been working at NextStep for Life full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team work. Focus on assisting people to be successful both finding and keeping a job. Nice benefits for the employee but have to pay for family coverage.

    Cons

Below average pay but work is rewarding. Management is behind the times a bit. Some supervisors are not very approachable but over all a good place to work.

    Advice to Management

Some supervisors may need some additional training in communications. One supervisor often offenses workers and is not very approachable.

    Pros

Working with many wonderful disabled individuals

    Cons

Lol....favoritism, unprofessional, unfriendly directors and supervisors, nepotism, mean, catty coworkers. Many managers and directors are bullies.

    Advice to Management

Learn some people skills, and realize the management team needs major changes.

I worked at NextStep for Life full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The mission statement you will learn throughout your time assisting individuals with developmental disabilities is accurate to every word. Will it demand your patience at times? Yes. However, the benefit of helping improve these lives outweighs the small daily challenges.

    Cons

Management could use better communication skills with employees in the residential department.

    Advice to Management

Act in accordance to listening to your employees. They are the hands and feet to improving these individuals lives and deserve respect too.

    Pros

very rewarding, great team atmosphere. I enjoyed helping people find the right job and become successful in it.

    Cons

The hours could be sporadic and you didn't know your schedule until the client did. However the pros well outweighed the cons.

I have been working at NextStep for Life full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The opportunity to help people with disabilities is the main pro of working here, but the support and generosity of the agency itself makes it that much more of an awesome place to work. The benefits package is especially excellent. Medical and dental are provided to the employee FREE of cost and raises are given to all employees annually. I work in the residential care department, so the bonds I've made are priceless, and I actually enjoy working there. Management is good, the HR dept.'s good, as well as the admin deptartment. Overall, it's wonderful working at NextStep.

    Cons

The income is much lower than deserved, however it is non-profit agency so the compensation is provided through DMH, grants, donations, and state funding. The staff turnover rate in residential is pretty high which often results in being understaffed and overworked. I spend the majority of my time at work, often working 50-60hrs/week, which wouldn't be ideal for someone with a family and kids.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to keep exploring new ways to enhance employees careers and advancement opportunities.

I worked at NextStep for Life full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Employees work as a team

    Cons

Reducing benefits...low pay...costs the average $1200 more to work there because of elimination of benefits.
Upper management make high salaries while workers who make them look good paid just above minimum

    Advice to Management

Don't do surveys if you aren't going to look at feedback. Don't focus on revenue but focus on clients

    Pros

Enjoyed working with people with disabilites

    Cons

I have never work at a place that has such a bad turn over with employees because as soon as you start working their you discover their is a click going on and if you not in the "in Crowd" your out the door even if you one of the best workers with their clients who have disabilities..

    Advice to Management

work on discouraging clicks to form at the work place it is so unprofessional and it hurts your clients to have such a large turn over of employees.
