I have been working at Novus full-time

    Pros

PTO. A few good people who have now left Novus.

    Cons

Everyone is trying to jump ship. The poor reviews are spot on. DO NOT JOIN and make the same mistake I did and ignore the warning signs. The ship is going down faster and faster as clients continue move out of newspaper advertising. What's left of Novus is a vicious, sick workplace environment.

    Advice to Management

Quit burning out valuable employees with inefficient use of their time. Senior leadership never knows what cowboy CEO wants of them nor will they push back on him. This wreaks havoc on all levels of the organization.

I worked at Novus full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    a handful of people
    PTO/benefits
    Flexibility

    Cons

Work/life balance sucks. They expect you to be connected all the time. Upper management is very unprofessional - if you want to head back to high school - this is your place. Make sure you are with the "in" crowd that way it guarantees a promotion:) Skills don't mean anything. Print media is dying quickly - and they don't have the talent to build up the digital business.

    Advice to Management

HR needs to up their game - be advocates for their employees instead of stand behind managers who don't know what they are doing. Hire managers that can be professional.

    I worked at Novus full-time

    Pros

I am required to write 5 words: Do Not Work At Novus.

    Cons

I took the job after OVER 4 MONTHS of interviews, as I thought it was a good way to get a foot in the door in the advertising industry. Could not have been more wrong. Petulant management struggling in a dying industry, but with a nevertheless cocky attitude about being an "agency." Lying to clients about capabilities, lying to employees about moving toward digital (all margins are made in newspapers), and lying to themselves about being a New-York-style agency really made the day-to-day an exercise right out of the "Emperor's New Clothes" story.

    Advice to Management

Close your doors; you should not lead any group of people.

I worked at Novus full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    PTO.

A decent first job for a recent college grad looking to get their foot in the door in regards to marketing or the working world in general.

Handful of fun people, but that's it.

    Cons

Incredibly hard to move up. Promotions are rare.

If you've had previous work experience, you will get incredibly bored...fast.

    Pay is less than desirable.

The print industry is dying, Novus knows it and is trying to change...but it's just not working. I feel like it's too late before the medium hemorrhages enough money out of the company.

Operations departments are treated like second-class citizens, meanwhile other departments such as Media Investment and CS are treated like kings.

The entire operations department could be automated and save the company a lot of money...doesn't feel good knowing you work for a company where your job is essentially meaningless.

    Advice to Management

Understand where your priorities are and make it clear what they are, instead of "We're going to do some big things!"

Realize that some departments are simply outdated and can be automated to save money, instead of keeping it around for more tenured employees.

Convert to digital, completely. The market is far too large to not take advantage.

I worked at Novus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Vacation and time off schedule
    A lot of great people
    Convenient location

    Cons

No recognition - only hear if something goes wrong
Merit systems is pretty much non-existent
Management can be challenging and hard to work for

    Advice to Management

Start valuing the employee's and recognizing all the great work that they do on a daily basis. They work really hard, but there doesn't seem to be any level of sincere appreciation from management. Nothing is ever good enough.
