Pros

Flexible work location and excellent benefits

Cons

Leadership was short-sighted and management structure was extremely top heavy. CEO saw himself as a visionary and focused more on making connections and pursuing personal image over achieving sustained improvements in the conservation or development space

Pros

There's a reason why you'll find so many people at Rare who've been there for 5+, 10+ years - great culture, and solid compensation and benefits. People are passionate about their work and are excited about collaborating with each other around the world, but with a healthy recognition of work life balance (at least this was my experience). It is an organization that punches above its weight in terms of impact, and seems to be growing in impact and recognition in recent years.

Cons

Transitions in leadership and senior staffing led to some instability during my tenure. Some organizational issues that seem to be typical for a matrixed, international organization. And the size of the organization was challenging - sometimes it felt too small to have as much impact as desired, sometimes too big to be really nimble and adaptable.
