Pros

Loved my work, especially the excitement of live TV broadcasting, and the dedication of the people I worked with.

Cons

The latter part of my 30 years with the SABC saw arrival of a new news manager, who brought too many changes in a very short time. These changes fundamentally changed the character of the institution, resulting in the departure of many of experienced producer, which consequently had a detrimental affect on the product.

Pros

Great place to learn; opportunity to gain experience in various areas if you are willing to sacrifice your time and don’t expect payment. You can truly widen your network here

Cons

Unfortunately the whims and whiles of management determine your growth path; if they like you, you can advance; if they like you, you can get paid even better than your peers and seniors. Still racist elements in management; patriarchy and inefficient HR; so no rationale to certain decisions and corrective measures.
