I have been working at Select World full-time

    Pros

The LA office is bright, airy and everyone is really nice. Having worked in large agencies in the past, it is refreshing to work for an agency that values a work-life balance of their employees.

    Cons

While there is a lot of detail-work to do, it is just nature of the Client needs. Some projects may be more creative than others.

    Cons

Client portfolio could be more diverse.

I worked at Select World full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great office space with view of the Empire State building.

    Cons

Sinking Titanic. Used to be 50+ employees now down to 10+. Lost all of their clients over the past couple years and the NY managing director and the founder are in major denial. So desperate that they force their employees to leave positive company review on Glassdoor. The mean girl squad, bullies and lazy creative leftovers. The time will only tell.

    Advice to Management

    Reality check.

I worked at Select World full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-nice soho/tribeca location -- very central and easy to commute to no matter where you are in the city and it's very close to trains
    -no dress code
-posh office -- well-designed and very lofty and Scandinavian feel (design wise)
-office looks like a modeling agency
    -beauty I guess
-good place to get experience if you can last a year without quitting or getting laid off
-sort of weird "pro" but you get to take 1-1.5 hours for lunch everyday (agency really values that and no one eats in their desks)
-very culturally diverse NYC office - so many languages spoken + lots of women

    Cons

-unstable financials... take a job here and there is 0 stability or guarantee that you won't be laid off just as fast as you were hired in a few weeks, months, etc.
-unprofessional cursing and yelling in internal meetings at times
-99% of the work here is print and outdated... hard to take to other agencies down the line when selling yourself to potential employers
-declining client list (hence first bullet)....
-lack of work life balance-- agency is overall chill but there are a few "bad apples" that tout their overwork (weekends included, 2am Saturday night emails and texts, etc) these bad "apples" rub off/force lack of balance on the rest of the agency and account teams. If you leave the office before 7 (god forbid you have dinner plans or just want to go home) or make weekend plans out of NYC you will be shamed to your face
    -bad for anyone with anxiety
-unhealthy at times overall, lots of pretension (but its beauty and fashion so yeah)
-you will wear an unhealthy amount of hats (if you're account you'll double as senior strategist, creative, etc)
-weird "con" but meetings never start on time. everything runs 1-3 hours late and this gets annoying when you're in the office late just because of pushed back internal meetings
-so many talented people at Select but they are either stuck or comfortable... most people there could be doing such innovative work at other larger agencies

    Advice to Management

    -assess financials prior to hiring
-keep meetings professional and start them on time
    -go elsewhere

I have been working at Select World full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team environment. Everyone really works together to produce great work. Senior employees always take the time to thoroughly explain if something is unclear. It's clear the management team works very hard to create a nice environment for employees, and are dedicated to providing a good work-life balance. The office itself is beautiful, the people are friendly, and the work is exciting. Overall it's just a really pleasant place to work.

    Cons

    I don't have any cons.

I worked at Select World (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great people! I loved the people I worked with at Select
    - Exposure to big name beauty & fashion clients
    - Boutique size (about 30 people) so you can get good exposure across different brands/clients and more direct contact with clients than at larger agencies
    - Great location and office in Soho/Tribeca area

    Cons

    - Like many agencies, upper management could use some work and be more transparent with what's happening in the agency
    - Sometimes the work vs. resource split is quite uneven
    - Since it's boutique, you often have to wear multiple hats and can get thrown into things last minute (but some people like this)

    Advice to Management

    - Put more focus into moving your Clients into a digital/social territory
    - Be more transparent about company happenings/changes with everyone

    Pros

    Strong Mentor
    Fast paced environment
    Summer Fridays
    Creative minded team throughout

    Cons

Field of advertising can be unpredictable, so there are days where you have an overflowing amount of work, but then there are some days that are pretty laid back with a bit more time to catch up on leisure work.

I have been working at Select World full-time

    Pros

    - Great office spaces and locations in different cities (all are a bit unique and have their own flair)
    - For the most part, employees are hard working, talented, and pleasant to work with
    - Not corporate at all so there's a nice laid back vibe
    - Half days on Fridays between Memorial Day and Labor Day are a huge plus and you get a solid amount of vacation, personal, and sick days
    - Most people actually take a proper lunch break and eat in the kitchen which is not typically the case at other agencies where everyone eats at their desks while working
    - Generally, hard-working employees are recognized with a raise/promotion
    - Caliber of clients tends to be strong

    Cons

    - Because of the casual work environment, people can be unprofessional... this is not the case for everyone, but there are some strong personalities (including amongst management) so you need to be okay with dealing with that
    - Promotions/raises will be on freeze if there's a lack of client work overall which can be really unfair if your client work is going well and you have been told you will get a promotion/raise
    - There's a sink or swim mentality and little training so this is not a good place for people who aren't comfortable learning as they go

    Advice to Management

    - Make use of the global network more
    - Allocate work more evenly so you don't have one person overloaded with work while another has nothing to do
    - Offer more training to junior and mid-level employees

I worked at Select World full-time

    Pros

    -Some people are nice
    -Starbucks downstairs
-Watching all the drama happen in this agency is more entertaining than any other reality shows.

    Cons

-Indecisive long meetings that goes nowhere
-Outdated way of thinking and unable to keep up with the trends
-Stressful and sometimes threatening work environment

A lot of seniors and management level are still stuck in the 2000s and the glory that this agency had back in the days. They are trying to promote themselves as a digital agency without really any understanding of digital and they are trying to appeal as luxury fashion/beauty agency while no one really cares about fashion. And yet they seem to be confused as to why they are losing all the clients.

    Advice to Management

They say that you can't see the forest for the trees. Well, you guys are wasting time looking at tiny leaves for too long.

Don't expect Junior to Mid-level staffs to give you 110% when you are giving them little to no attention.
