Poor leadership sinking the ship

Pros

The people I've worked with on delivery teams are almost exclusively great. Most people in general are pleasant to work with. Salaries and benefits are fair. Remote workplace seems valued except for some snide comments about it from C-Suite.

Cons

Some of the worst leadership I've seen anywhere. Everyone in the C-Suite is clearly in over their heads. They have some decent people in the lower levels of senior leadership, but many of those are recent promotions. CEO mentions poor performance in company meetings, but seems to take no responsibility for it. Significant amounts of gaslighting from leadership (see the comments replying to glassdoor reviews). Those working in delivery were regularly made to feel bad for not billing enough hours, while sales was regularly praised for selling projects designed to fail. Revenue is down over 50% and leadership seems to exclusively blame "the economy." Company is so desperate to sell anything they take unreasonable deals and let clients get away with whatever they want, then blame delivery teams when projects go over budget or deliver lower quality work. No raises or regular promotions in the last 2 years, though they did recently convert bonus to base salary. Good luck getting promoted if you're not a white woman.

Pros

Decent pay Unlimited PTO Some great co-workers

Cons

We're currently in the midst of our third layoff within a year Haven't seen bonuses in well over a year Haven't seen raises is well over a year Back when this company was Trendline, it was incredible. The moment Liz (the current CEO) took the reigns, everything began its decline.. This is not the company I used to work for. It's truly sad to see.

Thank you for the feedback. We genuinely appreciate the open and honest dialogue. We understand and agree that our sales engine has needed both investment and prioritization. We have taken steps to do just that. We recently hired three new sales staff and are deepening our efforts in building an outbound strategy to strengthen our pipeline. We are starting to see huge inroads, but this kind of effort takes time and is especially challenging, given the economic downturn and its impact on our clients. The current economic challenges did lead us to another gut-wrenching decision to streamline resources further as we weather the storm. However, we believe we are making all the right moves necessary to do the hard reset you are referring to while continuing to invest in deepening our technical capabilities that will enable our teams to serve our clients with a higher level of excellence. If you have additional questions or concerns, we encourage you to speak to any senior executive or join us at the next AMA with Liz.

Pros

- Some very talented individuals that truly care about others and the work they're doing - A lot of flexibility working remotely

Cons

In the past 2 years, Shift has gone through a lot of rebranding, repositioning, and general confusion about what they specialize in leading to dissatisfaction across the board, especially client retention. There are no goals or incentives for employees to focus on and everyone is in fear of the next layoff. The CEO has continued to lose money for the company every quarter since she began and her only solution to saving money is continued layoffs. When you can't point to one positive accomplishment, it's time to step down. Talented team members are under utilized while leadership continues to stumble through their roles and "figure it out as they go". With 4 rounds of layoffs in under 2 years, I'm thankful I was able to get off the Titanic while there were still lifeboats available. If it's not already clear, steer clear of this company and SHIFT your job search elsewhere.
