I have been working at Sunsource full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very helpful from top to bottom. They genuinely want you to succeed. Decent pay, good benefits. Lots of learning opportunities. Excellent work/life balance. If you need time off, it's not a problem and everyone will step up to cover for you.

    Cons

The company turns away too much business because of profit margin requirements, therefore creating its own competition. Could use more support staff and an increased focus on getting/keeping experienced people across the board; the increased productivity would far offset the cost of paying a few more dollars per hours.

    Advice to Management

Let the iPhone vs Android battle be a warning: if you drive away business because of cost (or exclusivity), sooner or later someone else will be there to compete with you to meet the demands of that market share.

    Pros

Grand Prairie branch. Good non-managerial sales employees with down to earth attitudes. Good training.

    Cons

Grand Prairie branch Managers are most arrogant and abusive. They are always right sort of mentallitty that breaks down employees. They have no respect for anyone who doesn't sale

    Advice to Management

Hire a new managers in South division. Arrogant, abusive and unrealistic people. No real value-add. District managers are not ethical. 23 minimum sales calls per week

    I worked at Sunsource full-time

    Pros

I worked in the Salt Lake City store where the people were friendly, we had benefits and worked well together in a small business unit.

    Cons

One old dog made all the money and would walk over anybody that wasn't taking care of him. Documents, policies and procedures needed improvement and attitudes needed to be adjusted. Upper management was in Colorado, so felt like we were the red-headed step-children.

    Advice to Management

Old employees, while dedicated, get set in their ways and it will take some doing to get them to conform...but the model for that will need to come from you. How you're going to do it from Colorado is beyond me.

I have been working at Sunsource full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No cap on commission. Vast product and brand offering available to sell. Account Managers are allowed to run their territory for the most part. Access to strong engineering teams.

    Cons

Promises of in depth training and an active new employee development not lived up to by superiors. Account Managers are often left on an island to discover internal and external resources and support. Much of the management is derived of former sales personnel that have not received employee management training. Very high sales margin expected including built in adders. Adjustments to these margins must be approved by several layers of management, slowing down and complicating the quote cycle. Very high number of expected weekly calls, which often leads to neglecting the quality of a sales call in favor of quantity - "shotgun" approach.

    Advice to Management

Train promoted managers for their position. Great sales people do not inherently become great managers. Commit to the onboarding and training processes even when company sales are down.

    Pros

Learned a lot of life lessons.

    Cons

No training, no promotion opportunities, no options for learning something new. If you were in the click with your boss you were treated positively. Otherwise ignored.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees, without them you don't have a business.

I worked at Sunsource full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A few friendly employees. Casual dress Fridays.

    Cons

This list could go on and on. The company pays well below average across the board. Do not plan on making any money here at all unless you are in sales; everyone else is treated like dirt and essentially told they are expendable. Managers do nothing to help their employees grow, and really take little to no interest in their careers or well being. Makes for an awful environment.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to talk to your employees so that they actually feel like they matter. Maybe bring in some new management as well

    Pros

    -The staff you work with
    -The free coffee

    Cons

    -Good old boy environment
-Upper management too close with HR. Allows them to operate how they feel is necessary (in a negative way)
-If your not in sales work somewhere else. They do not care about you at all. Small company and the president doesn't know anyone's name not in sales
-No room for growth. Same position for 30 years - get used to it.

    Advice to Management

Turn over current management for more competent individuals that know how to grow the company and attract top talent.

I worked at Sunsource full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

SunSource is a good company with solid management. They have some of the best product lines. There are many different divisions and places to work. Benefits are above average. Service facilities are top notch. Most employees care about company and work hard.

    Cons

The Management is highly focused on improving sales and margins which make for stressful days. They do not allow salesman to set competitive prices. Customer Service is forced to use an old computer system with many road blocks to get orders placed. Sales calls are tracked and weekly conference calls are a waste of time. Commission is lower than most. They only pay salesmen about $.27/mile for reimbursement with nothing extra. They have a policy and rule for everything.

    Advice to Management

Offer promotions and pay raises to employees proactively instead of reacting when they leave.
    Invest in new software.
    Hire more inside people.
    Relax and have fun.

I have been working at Sunsource full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Going in as an outside sales trainee, things looked very promising, but my view turned down-hill quickly.

    Cons

This company focuses only on the margins of each sale and not on the growth of the business. Zero priority placed in the growth of operations to support the ever-growing sales staff and constantly setting unobtainable goals for performance metrics in each department to limit salary growht

    Advice to Management

    Get new management.

I worked at Sunsource full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Sunsource has a very friendly employee base, and a good corporate culture. People there all get along very well, and management has somewhat frequent employee gatherings (during office hours) that are enjoyable. I almost never took work home with me, and was rarely had to travel. Management was transparent and provided good feedback on employee performance, and did a good job informing employees on issues regarding strategy and HR.

    Cons

It is somewhat difficult to advance in certain positions unless you want to relocate. Sunsource is primarily a sales-based organization, so that's where the money is. Nonetheless, you can have a stable well-paying career here in almost any role.

    Advice to Management

Focus. Sunsource's management seemed like they wanted to be everything to every one of their customers. The strategy works very well for stability, but will do little to foster growth except in cases of acquisition.
