I have been working at Switch full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - One of the most respected data centers in the world - Culture of respect and support that encourages innovation - Company truly believes in win, win, win scenarios that benefit our clients, our communities and our company - Best benefits package of any company (insurance benefits are great, gym membership, catered lunches, discounts at retailers and travel, free teledoc, great holiday gifts, etc.) - Company... attracts amazing humans at all levels - Company provides whatever you need to be successful at your job

    Cons

Even though I understand the need and I do feel compensated for these: - This is a mission critical environment which means there is constant pressure for high performance and excellence. - This is a highly secure environment so dealing with aggressive cyber security protocols can be frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Keep the open door policy and turn constructive feedback into company, policy, protocol, and product improvements.

    Pros

Some of the benefits are good but, don't be fooled. They use them to trap you in a dead end job.

    Cons

It's a dead end job if you don't want to get promoted for up to 5-10 years. All of the negative reviews are true, they maintain a "Good Ole Boy's" mentality. If you step on any member of Management's toes, they make it their personal responsibility to let you go. No one in their management teams are qualified for those positions. APPLY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU... Best of luck to those who... consider this disgraceful company...

    Advice to Management

JUST SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO THE MAJORITY OF YOUR EMPLOYEES! If the CEO was smart, he would personally seek out experienced & qualified managers, director's and executive employees. He's wasting his money and time with the petty, childish and moronic people in those positions. Let go of at least half of your management team before they drag your company down and replace them with professionals. Just saying... I... guarantee it won't change though...

I worked at Switch full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits, that’s it. Gifts you will be selling. Bonus is not a pay raise.

    Cons

Don’t listen to all these higher ups saying this place is innovative, tech god, or anything else. Fiber goes in from the providers and goes out, that’s it. we hold Amazons stuff up, we hold ebays stuff up, we hold banks up, with zip ties and velcro. I guess the best thing they have going for them is the fact they patent everything. Like the foam walls around your equipment or like the dumb desks/cubes. People... who go out to test your stuff really don’t know what they are doing and when they ask for help they are met with you can do it even though it’s “mission critical “. Problem employees are met with kindness even though they are the problem but the people trying to make a difference are met with hostility. Anytime you hear something it’s from Rob Roy’s vision. Everyone quotes him like he is a cult leader. It’s weird, really weird. All the female Chief officers are salesman/woman and fire people on the spot or get them fired. Nobody respects them at all because of their hostility. Pay starts at 21.50, next level up is 24. Next level up is 27 after 9 years. This is for the mission critical network operations whom support your equipment, 1 hour of work is encouraged to be be triple that.

    Advice to Management

Don’t bully your people, don’t say they do not work hard enough, unless you are facops whom work the hardest. Anybody in netops do not work hard so don’t pull the wool on anyone. This place is the worst, just make it better. Don’t give people positions because they kiss your feet do it because they deserve it.

I worked at Switch full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay, bonus, Christmas gift, they pay for your health club membership

    Cons

Rule by intimidation, no one is treated equal, promises that are not kept, policies change according to situations but they will try to hold you to a policy but do not bring a policy up to them or they will change it. High turn over with no backfill, HR does not work for you they work against you, do not go to them about something they only run to your manager and that causes problems. Do not try to take PTO, you... have to trade shifts with someone to use your PTO and then work for them when you return...truly not PTO. and if you are on grave shift, the day and afternoon guys will not trade, so you end up losing your PTO but yet you get spoken to sternly for not using it...management does not make the other guys help out. Place is a joke. And don't let it out that you are looking to move on or you are targeted and all the sudden even if you have had the best performance you get written up for stupid things like misspelled words even when your managers and directors do the same, and eventually you will get fired. And if you give your 2 weeks notice you will be walked out immediately. And let's not forget they have known offenses like coming to work drunk and they look past those, but nit pick others for minor things like misspelled words or write staff up and put them on probation (even though they have had perfect records for over 2 years) because they were doing something a previous supervisor had taught them and then chastise you because you didn't turn them in. Yep this is a great place to work...NOT. None of this is worth the money, bonus or gift.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at why people are leaving, quit stabbing people in the back, stand up for your staff, quit making them work short staffed, quit changing policies to support things you do not want to deal with, hold everyone to the same standards instead of playing favorites, if 3 people do the same thing reprimand them all not just the ones that are not the "teachers pets". Quit ruling by intimidation...that may... work on Vegas, but not in other areas of the world/USA. You need to look at a lot of areas and make a lot of changes, especially the PTO. It is not the responsibility of the employee to backfill when they are approved for PTO. And it is truly not PTO when you make them trade shifts...so when they come back they have to work their shift plus extras and not have a day off for 2-3 weeks. You may want to look at labor laws on this. Total JOKE!!!

    Cons

they lie to you about everything. they are very vague and you do not know what you are getting yourself into. Honestly, I think it is a cult because their energy is too high and fake. Someone will give you a high five every two minutes, it is very weird. The pay is trash honestly. 180 a week plus commission from Monday - Saturday 9:30am to 7:00pm . No one gives donations. This job is crazy is crazy, It is very... unprofessional too.

    Pros

This company is a very tightly ran ship. Some of which many people cannot endure. A real challenge for hard working individuals who's progress will go noticed and compensated for! Meals are paid for, along with uniforms and exams in which benefit you and the company. Benefits are among some of the best I've seen, paid PTO, 401k Matching, Onsite classes and study material along with many other perks. Rob Roy always... ups the bar every year as far as benefits and bonuses for us. This company truly shows appreciation for hard work and efforts placed by its employees. Management also strives to ensure scheduling is balanced and accommodating to ensure everyone's daily life is as balanced as possible. As stated before it is a tightly ran ship as this is the only datacenter with a Tier 5 Platinum rating so the expectation of customers are high, therefore making this a very busy place to work at. It is fast paced, which I love and overall this is an amazing company to work for, you still have your grumpy people like everywhere else but if you can get passed that then there's not much stopping you from moving ahead. The company prefers to promote within as the Switch culture is quite unique. All in all, it's a great place to grow your career and gain lots of experience!

    Cons

This company is still very much young and growing vastly, like anything growing, it is not perfect and requires tending to. Any imperfections are immediately corrected, improved and polished. Changes occur constantly, which again, is normal for any growing company and will leave disgruntled people.

    Advice to Management

I would highly suggest management to involve themselves a bit more with their subordinates as I've noticed bad energy can greatly spiral out of hand and affect other co-workers.

Paid Healthcare for employee and family Free Lunch Daily Amazing CEO - Wish those under him shared the same values.

    Cons

Wish Upper Management would listen to employees. Those who are below Director level are often ignored even though ideas and suggestions are valid or could improve the bottom line. Management will often steal the ideas of employees and take them for their own. Not technology forward. They don't want explore new tech or software. You literally have to pull teeth to get anyone to listen. Hopefully when they... do they will not steal it to make themselves look better. Lacking company culture. Many of those in upper management roles make fun of those who are over weight when they are not around.
