Dysfunctional corporate culture with no transparency and poor benefits

Pros

Beautiful working space with access to hiking trails. Some employees are wonderfully friendly, passionate, and great to work with.

Cons

Leadership culture is extremely dysfunctional and abusive to employees, entering into unreasonable agreements with funders to chase money, and throwing staff under the bus. When staff are unable to meet unreasonable expectations, or they dare to speak their opinion about how unreasonable the expectations are, abuse and retaliation can be expected. Human resources is complicit and facilitates this toxic culture. There has been tremendous turnover in the past few years and it is accelerating rapidly due to worsening conditions. It's a very sad state. On the upside, new hires seems to be getting offered better (sometimes near-market) compensation compared to staff who've been there longer. But there are no cost of living increases, no annual reviews, and employees stay at the same salary for years and years.

Serious Problems with Executive Leadership

Pros

The people are caring and really care about the mission. Located in a beautiful park.

Cons

Top heavy in salaries and those below executives make apprehensively low salaries. Those at the top only seem to care about appeasing the board members and do not put enough value in the people that keep TreePeople going. That's why there have been mass exoduses of employees in the past. They start to feel devalued and like their expertise doesn't even matter, and they are right in many ways. Knee jerk decisions are made without communicating with the key staff impacted by those decisions.

Your typical non profit organization

Pros

It’s in a cool place if you Like nature and working in a yurt. Work is slow most days so if your manager is cool, they’ll let you “work” from home.

Cons

Typical non profit. Low wages, garbage benefits and high turnover. If you don’t get along with those in your yurt, you won’t enjoy it. If your manager is good, you’ll enjoy it. Unfortunately, mine isn’t. No sense of direction whatsoever.
