Pros

Clients are great and vacation time is good if you have been there for at least a year.

Cons

Major benefits changes were implemented with minimal notice, including health insurance changes announced with roughly one week’s lead time. During severe weather events, staff were expected to return to work before conditions were reasonably safe. Management appears willing to push regulatory or compliance boundaries when oversight is limited, and staff safety is not consistently treated as a priority. Leadership frequently shifts expectations and retroactively reframes prior directives as having “always” been policy. There is little genuine upward mobility unless employees conform to a narrow, corporate presentation style, despite the organization branding itself as a nonprofit. In practice, the culture resembles that of a large corporation rather than a mission-driven organization. There are ongoing issues with sexism and, paradoxically for a human-services environment, ableism. High-performing staff are sometimes undermined rather than supported, with responsibilities or recognition quietly reassigned. Client satisfaction is routinely prioritized over employee safety, including pressure to disregard established safety and behavioral protocols including letting clients come in with clear COVID symptoms and not testing. Union support is limited in practice. Filing complaints often leads to escalation without meaningful resolution, and union involvement appears to negatively impact opportunities for advancement. Employees who raise concerns may experience stalled growth or subtle retaliation. Overall benefits are below industry standards.
