    I worked at URA full-time

    Pros

Good company benefits Stable job Work is meaningful and benefits the public

    Cons

Extremely bureaucratic - decisions require many layers of review before they can be made No penalties for incompetent staff, often resulting in more competent staff having to shoulder the extra workload Excessive amount of office politics Unclear organisation and reporting structure

    Advice to Management

Clarify the organisation structure so it tallies with what is happening on ground Do not be afraid to penalise incompetence, otherwise you may end up losing competent staff who suffer at the expense of others' incompetence

I have been working at URA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Stable job but mundane. Lots of food around.

    Cons

Colleagues are very knowledgeable in the related subject matters, if you are not familiar with urban planning and related subjects, you will find it hard to understand their speak and would be difficult to fit in. Colleagues can be rather judgemental at times. If you are looking for positions in the support functions and are not passionate about subject matters related to city planning, I suggest...

I have been working at URA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Good pay - Decent work-life balance - Central Location - Feel fulfilled with public service

    Cons

    - Hard to get things pushed (red tape). Things only happen on reactionary basis - Overly-competitive department; like hunger games - Work can get very mundane and slow depending on the portfolio (read point 1; doesn't matter if you're trying to autopilot) -Pretty much only planners and architects are favoured by high management. - Middle Directors may behave myopic to real issues and/or talents (big push factor for...
