      Not for Everyone, but Good for the Right Person

      Pros

      People are generally kind. No micro-managing, not competitive, not adversarial in negotiations. You can be yourself. Good benefits. Provide great services to the public.

      Cons

      Cliquish, huge lack of diversity in administrative office. Lack of communication and clarity. Passive attitudes and complacency. Promises to be a place for advancement and finding projects but doesn't provide pathways or support to do so. Low wages.

      Pros

      Steady work, usually quiet, with constant access to library materials. WCLS does provide opportunities to learn professional skills, which can help you on your career path.

      Cons

      Don't waste your time if you want to move up the career ladder. - Off If you aren't popular, forget about it. If you aren't planning on staying and are there for just a temporary after-school job, then it's a great way to pay the bills temporarily.

      Pros

      The people at this library are amazing. Everybody is interesting and passionate about what they do. The work is enjoyable, rewarding, and fun for the most part. Management is generally very supportive of staff.

      Cons

      The pay, even for PSA roles, is low in comparison to the cost of living in the area and the wages at neighboring libraries. There are also very few opportunities for full-time advancement, and almost none beyond the PSA level.
