An ITSP conversation with Sean Martin, Marco Ciappelli and the Founders from Blue Lava This is one of those origin stories that we love to share on ITSPmagazine. While each company's story is unique, inspiring, and beautiful in its own way, this one is told by the four friends that happen to be those that had a dream and turned it into reality. It is an extraordinary moment for the four of the co-founders to tell us how Blue Lava came to be and for us to share it with all of you. Legend says that it all started with a walk on the beach, a napkin, and a poem written just for them on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Fiction or reality? This is what we are going to find out from Laz, Julia, Joanna, and Andy. When an entire community of top cybersecurity professionals comes together, magic can indeed happen, and a new kind of company with a revolutionary vision — and platform — can come to life.
Blue Lava, creator of the first security program management platform built by and for chief information security officers (CISOs), today announced that it has completed a total of $25M in series A funding, with the latest $7.5M investment on top of $17.5M raised previously. The latest financing round, led by Crosslink Capital with contribution from existing majority investors Rally Ventures and ClearSky Security, allows Blue Lava to pave the way as an innovator in security program management.
Blue Lava, the first security management platform built by and for chief information security officers (CISOs), is pleased to announce that Chelsea Strong has joined the company as the new Vice President of Sales. Strong joins Blue Lava at a strategic point as the company rapidly expands in the cybersecurity marketplace. Strong has over 20 years of experience in cybersecurity sales, with the last ten years focused on helping security startups gain traction in emerging markets, and assisting CISO’s to understand and address future threats. She has worked for large companies such as CheckPoint and McAfee. Before coming to Blue Lava, Chelsea headed the sales team at Obsidian and was a key sales leader at FireEye and CrowdStrike during their startup stages, helping them eventually go public.
Blue Lava, the first cybersecurity company to deliver a security program management platform built by and for the security community, recently announced the appointment of David Walter as the company’s new CEO. Walter joins Blue Lava at a strategic moment as the company readies for business expansion. Blue Lava’s offerings are designed to help CISOs communicate the business value of security in the boardroom and win budget approval for security initiatives. Built on a community-sourced model, Blue Lava guides security leaders to measure, optimize, and communicate the strategic value of their cybersecurity program quickly, confidently, and aligned to business objectives. Walter brings to the company over 25 years of experience as both a practitioner and vendor in the risk management and cybersecurity markets. Previously, Walter was vice president at RSA Archer, instrumental in leading the strategy and execution of Archer’s leading Governance, Risk, and Compliance solution.
