We're so proud of Charlie Strube, who took on a thrilling challenge last weekend when she completed a skydive for Hft! Charlie has been working for Hft for fifteen years and manages three supported living and residential services in Bishops Stortford. The 39 year old was inspired to take on the challenge by her staff team, who provided invaluable support when Charlie’s husband passed away last year.⠀
"Becoming a support worker has been an absolutely great career move – it’s the best thing I could have done!"⠀ ⠀ Three members of a Kent family are celebrating milestone work anniversaries this year, after all finding their place at Hft. When Alex Whitewood started working at an Hft service in 2010, his sister Charlotte Law and mum Kim Whitewood soon followed in his footsteps. They’ve each since spent the last decade supporting people with learning disabilities to live the best life possible.⠀
Big congratulations to Kim Hillier, who is celebrating 30 years of work at Hft this month! Starting out as a support worker, Kim helped to establish our Bedfordshire service when it first opened, and has supported many people to live more independently over the last three decades. For the last five years, Kim has worked in our admin office, where she has continued making a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities in her area. ? ? Kim said: ?30 years?where has the time gone? Over the years, it?s been great to see people we support becoming confident and independent young people who live life to the fullest! Hft has brilliant training opportunities but it?s the people I have supported that I have the learnt the most from. I?ve had so many opportunities to try different things and cover different areas of support that my work has always been so varied - never time for a dull moment! In my current role in the admin office I am still learning new things and meeting new people, and luckily still get to talk to people we support and their families from years gone by!??
