We know that effectiveness goes up with the number of attentive seconds, to a point. We know a good VTR drives efficiency. And it's a useful measure to understand how captivating your creative is. BUT…. What it's not good for is optimizing for business results; be that buying a cinema ticket, signing up for an SVOD service or watching a TV show. At JustWatch Media, we’ve run thousands of entertainment campaigns so we sit on a stack of data. In this instance we’ve taken Theatrical campaigns, and on image 1 charted VTR with Box Office results. There’s no correlation (0.2) between how many seconds of an ad for a movie are watched and it's success at the Box Office. Too often media is steered towards those that like watching ads but have low intention of buying a cinema ticket.
