Merakey Meets is a new program in VA Beach that connects the individuals we serve with local leaders and community helpers. Our goal is to promote inclusivity, raise awareness, build relationships, and teach new skills by introducing our consumers to those who shape their communities. Our first event, Merakey Meets the Mayor of Virginia Beach, Robert “Bobby D” Dyer, was a great success! Mayor Dyer, a Marine Corps Veteran and the City’s first directly elected Veteran mayor, shared the importance of connection and inclusion. With extensive experience in public service and leadership, Mayor Dyer’s involvement highlights our commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities. Because our individuals deserve to be seen and included. Together, we are changing the narrative and building community.
The National Council for Mental Wellbeing held its annual NatCon conference in Philadelphia earlier this month. Merakey sponsored the Refresh & Recharge Lounge at the event, where attendees could relax between the many informative sessions. NatCon is the largest conference in mental health and substance use and brings together many health care and human services leaders to help better the community. The Spring meeting of the Merakey AVS Western PA Family Association took place on April 6 with over 75 attendees, many of whom were new faces. The gathering featured guest speakers, including PA State Representatives Anita Kulik, Andrew Kuzma, and Dan Miller, who addressed family members' concerns regarding Medicaid, staffing challenges, and current DSP wages.
As part of Merakey’s strategic goal to ENGAGE, the Children and Family Services Division hosted multiple networking events this week in Lansdale, Philadelphia, Mechanicsburg, Williamsport, State College, and other areas where Merakey provides services. Various Merakey departments, including QCO, IT, Talent Acquisition, and the Foundation attended the events to share information on how they coordinate with and support Operations. Employees enjoyed networking and learning how Merakey departments work together throughout the CFS Division.
