10 SuperValu and Centra stores were recognised and celebrated for their outstanding commitment to food safety excellence at the recent Musgrave Retail Food Safety Awards. Held at the Killashee Hotel in Naas, the event highlighted the exceptional performance and continuous improvement in food safety achieved by the selected retailers and their teams. The Musgrave Retail Food Safety Awards are a platform to acknowledge and encourage SuperValu and Centra retailers' commitment to maintaining exemplary food safety standards. The Awards are proudly sponsored by LRQA, (formerly Lloyds Register) who are a global assurance provider. Each winning store has demonstrated unwavering dedication to ensuring the highest standards of food safety, making them deserving recipients of this esteemed recognition. We are thrilled to announce that Musgrave has signed a significant €170 million contract with Ballymaguire Foods, a leading ready meal producer based in Lusk, Co. Dublin. This partnership is set to meet the growing demand for healthy, convenient meal options for our shoppers. Under this new five-year contract, Musgrave's retail brands SuperValu, Centra, and Daybreak will continue to offer a wide range of delicious, homegrown prepared meals and side dishes.
At Musgrave, we are delighted to celebrate Pride and show our support for the LGBTQ+ community with our ‘Summer of Pride’ campaign. In partnership with PRISM, our Employee Resource Group for Musgrave LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies, we are looking forward to having a host of activities take place across the Island of Ireland over the summer months. These include our annual 'Prideside in Conversation' with a number of internal speakers and external special guests, local team and colleague events. Celebrating Pride is one part of our wider I&D (Inclusion & Diversity) agenda across Musgrave where we continue to cultivate an inclusive work environment and culture, throughout the year, supporting our people to grow and thrive and bring their whole selves to work. This week we have been celebrating World Day for Cultural Diversity and Dialogue. With colleagues from over 70 different nationalities working in Musgrave, this event is an important part of our Inclusion and Diversity celebrations each year. The theme of our celebrations this year was 'Let’s Celebrate the Mosaic of Cultures at Musgrave this World Culture Day' providing an opportunity to come together as One Musgrave to showcase the diverse cultures of all our colleagues.
We are delighted to share that today SuperValu celebrates 10 years of the Food Academy programme, with €230m of Food Academy product sold in stores over the last decade. The Food Academy is a successful collaboration between SuperValu, Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board and the Local Enterprise Offices that has gone from strength to strength over the last 10 years, and with new research conducted by Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board and B&A, revealing that 90% of consumers choose to buy locally produced food, the future of buying local and Irish is here to stay. More than 1,000 local food producers have completed the Food Academy programme since its inception, with over 300 producers regularly stocked in SuperValu stores across the country. 2023 alone has seen an introduction of 23 new producers to the programme, launching a wide variety of products nationwide. We would like to take this opportunity, on this milestone occasion, to recognise and congratulate all of SuperValu’s producers on the wonderful success of the programme over the last 10 years.
We’re delighted to share that Musgrave Northern Ireland won three awards and was highly commended in two categories at the prestigious Belfast Telegraph Business Awards at the Crowne Plaza in Belfast. Recognised as Best Large Company of the Year, Musgrave Northern Ireland also achieved the Corporate Community Champion Award for the partnership with Action Cancer for the second year running. Our recently rejuvenated SuperValu Portstewart store was also awarded Retailer of the Year! We were highly commended in the Best Use of Digital & Social Media, and for Excellence in Workplace Health & Wellbeing. The new store will create 85 new jobs in the locality and opened to customers yesterday. The innovative store will provide a wide range of high-quality produce in line with SuperValu’s new food experience offering, with the store operations also meeting the highest sustainability standards.
