SOUNDEXCHANGE FILES SUIT AGAINST SLACKER, INC. FOR FAILURE TO PAY CREATORS WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 29, 2022 — SoundExchange, the premier music tech organization powering the future of music, today filed suit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California against Slacker, Inc. and its parent company LiveOne, Inc. to recover unpaid royalties owed to performers and rights owners. “By refusing to pay royalties for the use of protected sound recordings, Slacker and LiveOne have directly harmed creators over the years,” stated Michael Huppe, president and CEO of SoundExchange. “Today, SoundExchange is taking a stand through necessary legal action to protect the value of music and ensure creators are compensated fairly for their work. We hope Slacker and LiveOne will promptly reverse course and pay what they owe for the use of recordings that drive the value of their service.”
SOUNDEXCHANGE ANNOUNCES UNIFIED GLOBAL PUBLISHER SERVICES DIVISION TO SUPPORT MUSIC PUBLISHER COMMUNITY WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 14, 2022 — SoundExchange, the premier music tech organization powering the future of music, today announced it is unifying its existing publisher services offering to build an integrated global publisher services administration and licensing division, which will be called SX Works Global Publisher Services (SX Works). SX Works will focus on launching new solutions built to support the global music publisher and self-published songwriter communities, with phase one focusing on the U.S. and Canada. SX Works will be led by Paul Shaver, president of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA), who will serve as president of the division. SoundExchange acquired CMRRA, Canada’s leading and authoritative music publishing collective management organization, in 2017.
