In her words, "Those who work at Ultra are very open to answering questions and showing others how various systems work; I have been able to learn from some extremely experienced people and as a result, have put my knowledge into practice in front of peers, seniors and customers." In the past decade, the perceived underwater warfare threat has grown. Near-peer competitors’ submarines are increasing in numbers. The desire to move away from older conventional diesel-powered submarines to much quieter, more powerful submarines has pushed maritime nations to continually invest in developing future Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) technologies. A new era is quickly emerging for the future of ASW. Our short paper defines the problems facing modern navies, introduces the concept of “do more with less” with potential remedies, and summarizes an approach that modern navies should pay close attention to. You can climb the engineering career ladder in a variety of ways at Ultra. John Bowe, Head of Software, has had a wide-ranging life in Engineering. “The way I see it,” he says, “there are three career progressions for an engineer: technical specialism; technical project management; or dedicating yourself to line management, such as becoming a technical manager." “With the company recently united under the ONE Ultra umbrella, we've seen a clear purpose and set of values to guide us, more collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement being driven from top to bottom.”
