The Mobile Economy 2022 report by GSMA provides an overview & forecast of the mobile market in numbers. Globally, the number of mobile internet customers reached 4.2 billion by 2021. In 2021, the worldwide mobile ecosystem employed about 12 million people directly, with another 14 million indirectly employed through related businesses. Between 2022 and 2025, mobile operators would need to invest over $600 billion globally, with around 85 percent of it going into 5G networks. By the end of 2025, 5G will account for around a quarter of total mobile connections and more than two in five people around the world will live within reach of a 5G network. This week's Subject Matter is about the action taken by the United States Treasury to Impose Economic Costs in Response to Actions in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions The United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on Russian individuals and organizations, concerning continued efforts of Russia to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, by recognizing Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR) as “independent” states and deployed troops to these regions. OFAC imposed sanctions on two major Russian state-owned financial institutions and 42 subsidiaries, imposing additional restrictions on Russian sovereign debt, sanctioning five Kremlin-connected elites, and restricting economic activity with the DNR and LNR regions.
