In a recent article for the Colorado Real Estate Journal, David Zucker wrote: What divides pro- and anti-development is, I believe, what also binds them. At the heart of both the pro- and anti-development ethos are the same fundamental goals: the preservation or creation of a neighborhood that supports a “15-minute community;” communities in which residents can reach stores, schools, cultural and religious centers and friends in a dependable 15-minute walk, car ride or bike ride. Since 2010, Zocalo has opened six developments, has six more in pre-development, experienced record sales in Colorado, changed the downtown skyline and has been recognized with numerous awards. Truthfully, while all of that is amazing it pales in comparison to two things. First, Zocalo has amazing people, both past and present who we are proud to call our teammates. The dedication and commitment of our team is undeniably the reason for success. Whether you still work for Zocalo or not, if you’ve ever been a part of this team you’ve had an impact on where we are today and we thank you. This week we observed the pioneering future residents of our latest development, Vita, walk into the building for the first time. The average age of our resident is 73. As we watched and listened, their worries seemed to ease, they began to talk about meeting new friends and using the amenities, decorating their new homes and having family come to visit. They are excited! In the end, that’s it, really. That’s why we do what we do. It’s the core of Zocalo and the true spirit of our company.
