Thank you Lidia Fonseca, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Pfizer and friend of ghSMART. She joined a team call last week to share her career story as well as insights on leadership, digital transformation, change management and increasing representation at senior levels. On increasing representation, Lidia said “You’ve heard the phrase ‘being in the room where it happens’, these conversations about diverse representation need to happen in a lot of rooms: the living room, conference rooms, an oval room, but also in board rooms. When those conversations happen, we’ll make progress. We need to create an environment where underrepresented communities feel the path to leadership is within their reach."

With all the time, money, and collective experience invested in succession planning, why do companies often stumble when transitioning from an iconic CEO? The root cause can be traced back to four seemingly innocuous habits, according to ghSMART Partners Elena Lytkina Botelho, Shoma Hayden, and BJ Wright in Harvard Business Review.
As we honor Black History Month, we recognize the enormous strides that have been made towards diversity, equity, and inclusion for our Black friends, family members, colleagues, and community members. We also recognize that much work remains to be done. Our Spotlight on Inclusion this month features Dr. Ashley Brown, a Principal at ghSMART. Here’s what Ashley shared with us. “I have a number of intersecting identities: Black, woman, first-generation college student, PhD, mom, etc. Focusing on my race, the words that come to mind are: resilience, pride, gratitude, and legacy. My parents went to segregated schools, my maternal grandfather was a sharecropper for decades, and my paternal great-grandfather ‘passed’ as a white man to buy land for our family and other black families in my hometown, risking his life for the collective future. To be clear, my history is more common than unique in the United States..." Head over to LinkedIn to read Ashley's complete thoughts.

New ghSMART teammate Tim Colter developed an interest in how communities take shape and evolve -- and how people with purpose can shape those communities -- through his parents. Tim began his career in Houston teaching history and leadership development at the KIPP schools. Later, he joined Teach for America’s talent team where he helped craft talent and recruitment growth strategy. Looking to the example of other leaders he admired, Tim next attended the Yale School of Management. He began his post-grad career at McKinsey as a consultant, then became the Director of McKinsey Launch, the Firm’s global innovation investment group. When he learned about ghSMART he knew he wanted to go all-in on leadership advising for investors, boards, and executives. Tim currently lives in LA with his amazing fiancé Kate, enjoying the natural beauty of the outdoors: hiking in the hills, running in his neighborhood. Home and family is Tim’s top priority, he values that his new role allows him to be present in the places and with the people that matter most. Learn more about Tim and ghSMART:
